APNewsNow. With AP Photos. Ike Davis has been removed from the New York Mets' lineup because of possible food poisoning.
The first baseman was pulled about 90 minutes before Saturday night's game against the Yankees. Daniel Murphy shifted from second base to first, and rookie Jordany Valdespin was inserted into the lineup at second.
Murphy dropped from the No. 2 spot in the order to fifth, while Valdespin was set to bat second.
Stuck in a brutal slump for the first two months of the season, Davis finally got rolling recently. He hit a three-run homer in Friday night's 6-4 victory over the Yankees and was batting .351 with three homers and 15 RBIs in his last 12 games.

“I definitely believe that Dickey’s success will lead to more interest in the knuckleball by other professional and even amateur pitchers. However, the interest in the pitch may be short-lived if no one out there can teach it. R.A. worked hard to connect with those who could help him develop his knuckleball. Others may not have the same perseverance.:

Frank Francisco is not having a good season, but that's done nothing to deter the reliever's confidence. Francisco's Mets will take on the Yankees for three games beginning on Friday, and he had a simple message for his upcoming opponents. "I can't wait to face those chickens," Francisco told the New York Post. "I want to strike out the side against...
Chris Young pitched 6 innings giving up 3 runs on a home run.
The Mets lost to the Yankees today by a score of 4-3. Young pitched well for 6 innings before giving up a 3 run homer to Ibanez. Jon Rauch gave up a game winning homer to Eric Chavez.
The Mets runs came on a solo shot by Kirk, an RBI by Thole, and a base hit by Chris Young. Daniel Murphy took Soriano to the warning track...
Mets closer Frank Francisco sure knows how to egg on his team's cross-town rivals the New York Yankees. Right before an important three game series this weekend, he calls them names and calls them out.
"I can't wait to face those chickens," Francisco told The New York Post right before the Yankees cross the road (actually the Grand Central Parkway) to meet the...
At least somebody isn't afraid to talk trash about a cross-town rival.
"I can't wait to face those chickens," Mets closer Frank Francisco said when asked about playing the Yankees in this weekend's Subway Series at Citi Field. "I want to strike out the side against them. I've done it before."
Before Francisco could elaborate on his "chickens...
Robinson Cano hit a tiebreaking homer in the eighth inning and the New York Yankees touched up R.A. Dickey for five runs in a 6-5 victory over the Mets on Sunday night.
Nick Swisher had an early three-run shot against Dickey, who was coming off consecutive one-hitters, making him the first major league pitcher in 24 years to accomplish that feat. But in a much-anticipated matchup...
Mets vs. Yankees Picks
The weekend is here and we’ve got a couple MLB picks for you to look at.
The Mets are doing their thing right now and can be found in second place in the NL East. They’re winners of three straight and now get their chance at redemption at their crosstown rivals.
On Friday we’ll see Jonathon Niese come up against veteran hurler Andy Pettitte...
The New York Mets (29-32) beat the New York Yankees (41-28) in game one of Subway Series Part II by the score of 6 to 4 tonight at Citi Field.

By many accounts the Red Sox's have stepped up their efforts to trade Kevin Youkilis, once the heart and sole of Boston he now appears to be on the outside looking in at a clubhouse that may possibly be in total disarray. It's said that the Mets are weeks away from deciding if they're buyers and even if they venture into the trade market it will only be for smaller pieces...

Remember yesterday when I stood up for Terry Collins by saying that there was no need to waste Tim Byrdak on Raul Ibanez because Raul Ibanez was absolutely terrible lately and that Robinson Cano was a much better lefty to use Byrdak on?Well after Collins got away with using Miguel Batista in a 1-2-3 seventh in a 5-5 tie (after R.A. Dickey didn't quite have his best stuff yet...
