NEW YORK -- A surprising first half has given way to a disappointing second half for the New York Mets as a whole, but starter R.A. Dickey has regained the form that made him a first-time All-Star. Dickey's complete-game victory over the Marlins helped the Mets halt a nine-game home losing streak Thursday. The 6-1 win gave Dickey (15-3) a share of the major-league lead in wins, tying the Los Angeles Angels' Jered Weaver. After the Mets acknowledged they haven't been hitting or pitching of late on Wednesday night, they did both Thursday. They backed Dickey with 13 hits, eight off Marlins starter Josh Johnson (7-8), who gave up three runs in six innings. Andres Torres had three hits, including a homer and triple as well as three RBIs. David Wright, moved to the cleanup spot for the ninth time this season, had two hits, a RBI and a run scored. Josh Thole added a pair of RBI singles. Former Met Jose Reyes went 0-for-4, ending his 26-game hitting streak. Reyes' be...

Dickey Stumps Marlins 6-1 With Complete Game, 10 Strikeout Gem

R.A. Dickey cooked up a gem as the the knuckleballer ended the Mets’ three-game skid, and nine-game home losing streak, with a complete game, 10-strikeout performance at Citi Field this afternoon. Clayton’s recap will be up in this post as soon as he sends it in to me. In the meantime, I have some thoughts… Thoughts from Joe D. I’m not gonna tell you the team showed some...

The NL Complete Game King In Command During 6-1 Rout of Marlins

With the 2012 season spiraling out of hand, today was exactly what the doctor ordered. The Mets went out there and their signature knuckleballer R.A. Dickey went out there and dealt a gigantic dose of 2012 first-half Dickey, defending his All-Star status. On top of that, the lineup did a sufficient job of getting to Marlins ace Josh Johnson, showing some signs of life on offense...

Fading Mets Look to Hang On vs. Braves

By SBRForum.com If RA Dickey could throw every game, and in actuality he might be able to, the New York Mets might have a chance to crawl back into the National League playoff situation. But of course that first proposition won’t happen, so neither, it appears, will the second. After Dickey helped the Mets stave off a sweep by the Miami Marlins Thursday, New York now looks to keep...

Oh No, Not Again! Are You Freaking Kidding Me?!?!

The Fix Is In? Remember all the Hater-Ade that gushed out of Mets Nation when Jose Reyes took himself out of his last game of the 2011 season following a bunt single, so that he could preserve his lead in the batting race and win a batting title? Some Mets fans were so turned off and fuming, that they decided to completely forget the other 1,049 games Jose Reyes played as a Met all...

Dickey's gem halts Mets' 9-game home skid, Reyes' hit streak

NEW YORK -- The mystifying pitch R.A. Dickey throws like no one else when he is on was fluttering and darting enough Thursday to end one impressive streak by an ex-teammate and halt a demoralizing one for his current teammates. It also has placed the pitcher who likes to stay "in the moment" in a place where his future could include a National League Cy Young award. ...

Putting An Individual Award Over The Team’s Best Interest?

Dugout Digest - the favorite re-emerges

You know, I was planning on writing an article about the NL Cy Young award race yesterday. I decided to put it off until today since RA Dickey, one of the first half favorites, was starting yesterday afternoon against the Marlins. Since the break, Dickey has been good...but not really "transcendent" like he was in the first half. Well,  yesterday...he was transcedent...

Mets 2012 Season Will Be A Near Total Loss

Its hard to fathom now, but the Mets had a realistic shot at the playoffs only one month ago.  Since then the team has taken a turn for the worst with a lot of poorly played baseball compounded by additional injuries.  In the process, the current situation has re-highlighted some glaring issues that the team’s successful first half had given us the luxury of forgetting about...
