It only took the New York Mets bullpen till late August to finally put things together and get on a roll.  Sure, the team is sitting in sole possession of 4th place in the NL East (18 1/2 games behind the Washington Nationals), but when you’re hot, you’re hot.  The Mets, coming off their first four-game winning streak since June 27-30, dropped the series finale to Philadelphia by a score of 3-2.

The bullpen, however, tossed two more scoreless innings and with the performance of Ramon Ramirez and Robert Carson today the pen has now gone six games without allowing a run.  During that 15 1/3 inning stretch Mets relievers have allowed just 6 hits and 4 walks while striking out 12.

To be perfectly honest I’ve almost become numb to what the Mets are doing of late.  I know they’ve played well this past series and as a fan I’m happy to see the recent performances of guys like Matt Harvey, Ike Davis, and Lucas Duda, but I’m not exactly rushing home to watch the game.  Maybe some of the players we are seeing in the pen are part of a solution that will change the kind of play that has caused us to turn off our TV after the 6th inning for most of the year; guys like Josh Edgins (hasn’t allowed run in last 8 outings) and Robert Carson (1 hit, 0 ER, over last 3 2/3 IP).  For me, I just need to see a lot more, but I’m happy to say this recent stretch has been a nice start.
