There’s no two ways about it, tonight’s loss falls on the shoulders of the bullpen.  Dillon Gee pitched well enough to win tonight, and the Mets offense did enough against Cliff Lee to take home a victory tonight, but that’s not the way the story would end for the Mets.

Every single reliever the Mets used out of the ‘pen tonight gave up a run, and that was a recipe for disaster.  The biggest disappointment was Bobby Parnell giving up a huge, game-tying, pinch hit homer in the seventh inning to Carlos Ruiz that ultimately became the turning point of the game.

There really isn’t much else to talk about tonight.  It sucked, and was disappointing.  This is the type of game that last year’s team loses, not this year’s team.  The only bright spot was Lucas Duda hitting two homers, and the Mets putting up a bit of a fight in the ninth after the Phillies took a 7-run lead going into the bottom of the ninth.  The Mets were able to put a scare into the Phillies in the ninth, eventually causing them to use their closer Jonathan Papelbon when they probably shouldn’t have.

The Mets have tomorrow off before welcoming the Cardinals into town for a four-game set this weekend.

Let’s go Mets.
