The New York Mets lost to the Phillies yesterday 9-2.  It’s not the end of the world, I’m not going to sit here and tell you that the Mets season is over…losses happen.  However, it is concerning that Chris Young continues to struggle later in games.  I liken Chris Young to the ugly girl at the bar who talk to all night, only to see she’s not what you thought she was….when the lights come on.  I mean you put in all this time and effort, probably bought her a couple of drinks….Then BAM! it’s 2am, the bar’s closing, lights come on and the girl looks more like Justin Upton than Kate Upton.

Chris Young has been great in the early part of games….The guy looks like the next pitcher the Mets were hoping for when they signed him last year.  And then…the 6th inning comes around he looks like the kid from Rookie of the Year after his arm stops working.  He looks like a guy who is afraid his carriage is about to turn into a pumpkin at midnight.

In his 3 of his last 4 outings, Young has not allowed a run until at least the 5th inning.  In 2 of those 3 starts he did not allow a run until the 7th inning, as was the case yesterday.  Young gave up a 4 spot to the Yankees in the 7th 2 weeks ago and gave up 3 yesterday against the Phillies.  Maybe, just maybe Mr. Buttermaker (Collins) should come to the realization that Chris Young isn’t a 7, 8, or 9 inning pitcher.  I know, I know, Young had only thrown 68 pitches going into the 7th yesterday.  BUT, once the train starts coming off the tracks, Collins needs to make sure he has the bullpen ready AND has a quick hook for Mr. Young.

The Mets will go for the series win against the Phillies tonight as Bobby Al Dickey takes on Cole, soon to be traded, Hamels.  This is a great pitching match-up and I fully expect Dickey to rise to the occasion.  He’s heading into the All Star Game and could put an exclamation point on his 1st half with a strong performance against the Phillies.
