In a weekend dominated by playoff football, Mets avoid arbitration with Ike Davis

It’s another weekend where most sports fans will have their eyes on the NFL Conference Championship games, but for the Mets faithful, besides enjoying some Free NFL Playoff Picks, there was good news regarding first basemen Ike Davis (who was also apparently enjoying the NFL playoffs). #bbpBox_293097489165328384 a { text-decoration:none; color:#0084B4; }#bbpBox_293097489165328384...

David Wright got engaged to Molly Beers

David Wright is having a pretty big offseason. Not only did the All-Star third baseman sign a long-term extension with the Mets, but he also got engaged. Wright told ESPN New York’s Adam Rubin that he and model Molly Beers got engaged over the holidays. Beers joined Wright at his press conference announcing his contract, suggesting the two were pretty serious. Wright and Beers’...

Getting to know Collin McHugh, rotational darkhorse

Every day the Mets move closer to starting the 2013 with only four rotational givens: Santana, Niese, Harvey and Gee.  That leaves Mejia, Familia, Schwinden, Hefner and a certain fella named McHugh.  You might be asking, “McWho?” but by the end of Spring Training I would hardly be surprised if Collin McHugh were to be anointed as the 5th starter in the rotation. The reason...

It’s A Make Or Break Season For Duda

According to Mike Puma of the New York Post, Lucas Duda’s surgically repair wrist is healthy, and he will head to Port St. Lucie next week to join Dave Hudgens for early workouts, a Duda is a work in progress and with no improvements expected in the outfield, the Mets are making him one of the top projects in Spring Training with Hudgens expected to work extensively with Duda...

Updated by Joe D. on 1/20 Projected left fielder Lucas Duda, who underwent November 5th surgery to repair a fractured right wrist, has started hitting off a tee in his native California. “It’s going well, feels great,” Duda told ESPN New York on Sunday. Duda expects no difficulties with the wrist during spring training. Well here’s some good news… Original Post 1/18 According...

Juan Centeno is among nine NRIs for the Mets

Every spring, players across all of Major League Baseball fight for a spot on a big league squad.  Some of these players have a high salary; others are top prospects and than there are the guys who just need a job. The latter usually come in the form of non-roster invites that have a higher chance of spending the 2013 season in the minors for clubs such as the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre...

MMO Featured Post: Why You Should Watch The Mets This Season

With less than thirty days before pitchers and catchers report to Port St. Lucie for Spring Training there is little excitement for the upcoming season.  Bad baseball may be better than no baseball, but 2013 appears to be another year of tempered expectations for most Mets fans.  As a result, ticket sales and television ratings will likely take yet another hit, but should they...

Which Prospects Will Debut In 2013?

Wheeler is the odds-on favorite to debut in 2013, but there are plenty others to keep an eye on. So which prospects can we expect to see debut for the Mets this season? Will we see another dazzling Harvey-esque type debut to instill some hope for the future? This is a good question and one that will be more fun to tackle than all the questions about the major league squad. 2:1 Odds...

What Spring Training Battles Will We See In Mets Camp?

Pitchers and Catchers report in 22 days. Only three more weeks until until all of our players proclaim they are in the best shapes of their life. What do you think will be some of the more interesting battles in Mets camp this spring? XtreemIcon – If the current roster goes to Spring Training, I’d say the 5th starter job, though the Mets keep saying they’ll bring someone in...

Mets Have $95M Payroll And Only $5 Million To Spend? Not Exactly…

Just caught a glimpse of this on MetsBlog: So, as we’ve been discussing all winter, the Mets payroll is around the same number as it was last year, but without adding new talent to the roster (and reducing their payroll commitments by parting ways with Jon Rauch, Mike Pelfrey, Andres Torres and Ramon Ramirez). Now, Sandy Alderson has indicated he would be able to expand the budget...

David Wright in the WBC, how you say d’Arnaud, Alderson’s WFAN interview

It is time for another round of the World Baseball Classic. This one is going to have a different feel for the Mets, who have been quite well-represented in previous tournaments. While all rosters have yet to be finalized, perhaps David Wright will be the only player from the major league roster to be involved in 2013. In the last go round the Mets had 17 players, including Wright...

SNY Expanding Met Pre-Game Show To One Hour

Bob Raissman of the Daily News, hears that SNY are making some big changes to the Mets pre-game show including expanding it by 30 minutes and featuring more Gary Cohen, Keith Hernandez, Ron Darling and Kevin Burkhardt. Those viewers wanting more of Keith Hernandez , Ron Darling and Gary Cohen will have their wish fulfilled this season. Well-embedded moles say SportsNet New York will...

Mets Could Be In On Michael Bourn If Price Comes Down

Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe says this morning that “the Mets are not out of the picture if the price and length of commitment come down” on free agent outfielder Michael Bourn. As you can read below, I don’t see Bourn and the Mets as a match for the reasons I specified, chief among them being that it would cost the Mets their first round pick. Original Post 1/15 I don’t...

Mets bring back Feliciano, settle with Ike Davis

Left-hander Pedro Feliciano is returning to the New York Mets, who also settled their salary arbitration case with first baseman Ike Davis. The Mets said Monday that Feliciano had agreed to a minor league contract after two injury-plagued seasons across town with the Yankees. The 36-year-old left-hander never pitched in a game for the Yankees, spending two years of the disabled...
