Thanks to George Vecsey for yet another condescending piece on the Mets from the New York Times. I used to enjoy the Times' sports coverage once upon a time, but there is a certain arrogance to it now that makes them better suited to Yankees coverage. That's fine, too, whatever works. It's not like there is a shortage of Mets coverage. The issue that Vecsey and his comrades at the Old Gray Lady keep tripping over the egos on is that they feel that if the Mets are irrelevant to them then the Mets are simply irrelevant. Of course, Vecsey does allow us poor Mets fans our own misguided feelings on the subject of irrelevance: Their fans won't think so, bless their hearts. They pay $395 per brick to perpetuate epic games, dearly departed rooters, beautiful evenings, ghastly events, unforgettable bites of sausage, sweet or spicy.
