Boy that Jimmy Fuller was impossible to hit last night! Buffalo 7, SWB 6 By Connor O’Brien The Bisons beat the Scanton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees by a score of 7-6. The Yankees jumped ahead early last night, scoring runs early and often off Bisons starter Garrett Olson. Olson took the mound after the Bisons scored a first-inning run on an Adam Loewen RBI-double. Olson allowed the Yankees to tie up the game in the bottom of the first, allowing a solo home run. The Yankees certainly weren’t done yet. In the third inning, the Yankees scored three runs off Olson, capped off by a Jack Cust RBI-single. The Yankees stuck again the next inning, scoring another run on an RBI-hit off the bat of Chris Dickerson, putting the Yankees up 5-1. Olson exited the game for the Bisons after allowing five runs on eight hits in just four innings of work. The Bisons began to claw away at the deficit in the top of the sixth inning. They got two runners on base for Matt den Dekker, who knocked a three-run home ru...

Alderson On Chemistry, Valdespin, Trade Market, Harvey, Wheeler

Sandy Alderson was a guest during the sixth inning of this afternoon’s SNY Cubs vs. Mets broadcast. Gary Cohen hit him up with some great questions in the short time that he had, and ended up getting some nice insights into what the Mets GM is thinking about regarding a wide range of topics. Matt Harvey: Alderson believes that Matt Harvey could be a viable option for the rotation...

Tejada Proving To Be A Core Player For The Mets

I’m marveled at the incredible season we are seeing from our starting shortstop Ruben Tejada. Who could have expected such poise and confidence in someone so young and in fact younger than most of our top prospects who are still toiling in the minors. When the Mets let Jose Reyes go this Winter and announced that 22-year old Tejada would be the everyday shortstop and that...

Mets Farm Report: Den Dekker and McHugh Key Bisons Victory, Tyler Pill Tosses Another Gem

“Got To Get To MCU Park Before First Pitch…..” Buffalo 10, SWB 3 By Connor O’Brien The Bisons beat the Yankees by a score of 10-3 last night. The Herd offense had a field day off Yankees starter (and former Met) John Maine. The Bisons didn’t do much early on, but got a run in the second on a Matt den Dekker solo homer. They resumed scoring in the top of the fourth, when...

Ruben: He’s Not Just a Sandwich. He’s Our Shortstop

Ruben Tejada has been fantastic at the top of the Mets lineup. Let’s hop in our blue and orange Delorean and type in the date Dec 4 2011.  Now let’s get this bad boy up to 88 mph (faster than a Chris Young fastball), and go back in time. “John from Queens, you’re on the FAN”, comes over the radio as the car appears on Roosevelt Ave.  ”Tanks fuh takin’ my cawl.  Tuh...

Mets Prospect Spotlight: A Young Man Retires From Baseball

Tyson Seng One day not too long ago, I was thinking back to a footnote on a transactions page from early May that I saw and it was still troubling me. I don’t like unsolved mysteries, and I couldn’t understand why a guy who went 3-1 with a 0.90 ERA, two saves, and a 32/5 K/BB ratio in his professional debut, would retire six games into his second pro season? So I asked him. Tyson...

Today in Mets History: Always Terrific, Seaver Was Nearly Perfect

SEAVER: Almost perfect on this day. It is possible this game in 1969 is most remembered from that amazing season. On this date in 1969, and maybe each day since for Tom Seaver, he’ll remember Jimmy Qualls’ sinking single into the left-center gap with one out in the eighth inning to break up his perfect game bid and forced him to settle for one-hit, 4-0 shutout. It was one of...

All Star Break 2012: Mets Mid Season Report Card

The Miraculous Evolution Of R.A. Dickey

On Christmas day, 2009, the Mets signed an obscure knuckleballer named R.A. Dickey. The cynical Mets’ fans whispered to each other that the Wilpon family, owners of the franchise, were broke, as a result of the Bernie Madoff scandal, and all they could afford to sign was a mediocre 35 year old career nomad, who had been tried and discarded by four major league franchises. His major...

Pre-Game: Cubs (32-51) vs. Mets (45-39)

The Mets and Cubs have some history The Mets look to rebound after last nigh’t loss to the Cubs that saw New York stage a comeback that fell a run shy of beating their former division rivals. The Mets send Dillon Gee to the mound for his last start of the first half of the season, he is opposed Jeff Samardzija. Today’s game can be seen on SNY with Gary Cohen and Keith Hernandez...

Pre-Game: Chicago Cubs (32-52) @ New York Mets (46-39)

Ryan Dempster comes off the DL today to face Jon Niese. This afternoon at Citi Field, the Mets will be looking for the series victory over the Chicago Cubs. Yesterday afternoon the Mets played a solid game in a 3-1 win.  Dillon Gee had probably his best outing of the year.  Gee threw eight innings and allowed one run on seven hits with no walks and four strikeouts.  The most...

Down On The Farm: July 8, 2012

Buffalo Bisons (45-45, 6 1/2 GB; IL-North) -Buffalo went 4-3 this week which included three home games and four games in Syracuse against two different teams. The Bisons took two of three from the actual inhabitant the Syracuse Chiefs before dropping their first game to the Scranton/Wilkes Barre Yankees who are homeless for both this season and next as the Yankees renovate...

Matt Cain, Not R.A. Dickey, Will Start All-Star Game

It must be great to be a San Francisco Giants fan. Not only did a late push of fan votes elect three starting position players (Buster Posey, Pablo Sandoval and Melky Cabrera) to the NL lineup, but now the Giants will also have Matt Cain as the starting pitcher. John Harper of the New York Daily News tweeted at 9:23 a.m. that “Source says Dickey is not starting All-Star Game....

Gee, Mets shut down Cubs 3-1

By Dave BuscemaThe Sports Xchange NEW YORK -- Chicago Cubs manager Dale Sveum hoped Jeff Samardzija's last start, when he gave up one run in seven innings in a win against the Braves, would help him forget the pounding the New York Mets put on him last month at Wrigley Field. It may well have, but the Mets still managed to push just enough runs across on home runs from Ike...

Mets’ R.A. Dickey Should be All-Star Game Starter

With the MLB All-Star game a day away, the starting pitchers and lineups have been announced. The starting pitcher for the American League is Justin Verlander of the Detroit Tigers. The starter opposing him for the National League is Matt Cain of the San Francisco Giants. I have an issue with Cain being the starter [...]
