The Mets have and continue to have a minor league deal extended to free agent catcher Rod Barajas. The sense is that Barajas would essentially form a strong defensive tandem with Henry Blanco while each can provide occasional pop.
Josh Thole would certainly benefit from a Barajas signing as it basically guarantees he is the starting catcher at AAA this year. Omir Santos would basically be screwed however, and be a bench player for AAA. Where Chris Coste fits in, I have no idea. My thinking is he gets released in the spring and picked up by another team.
While I have no problem with a Blanco/Barajas platoon, why has it dominated the off season?
