The Mets rounded out their staff with some speed Saturday night. Unfortunately it is coming in the form of a first base coach. Tom Goodwin will replace former Met Mookie Wilson as first base coach this season.
Goodwin spent time with six different organizations and played in the league for 14 years including two stints with the Dodgers. He has spent the last four years coaching in the Red Sox minor league organization. Goodwin became the fourth new addition to the Mets coaching staff this offseason. He joins bench coach Bob Geren, third base coach Tim Teufel, and bullpen coach Ricky Bones as new faces in the clubhouse.
Coaching staff tweaks may be the only tweaks the Mets will be able to make during free agency. The amount of money the Mets will have to give free agent shortstop Jose Reyes is far too important and should be their number one priority.
