New York 2nd baseman/outfielder Jordany Valdespin led off the Mets-Tigers Grapefruit League game earlier today by taking Detroit ace Justin Verlander deep for his third home run of the spring. Valdespin didn’t fare so well in his next at-bat against Verlander, when he took a 94-mph heater straight to the place no man ever wants to get hit with anything. Yep, Valdespin got nailed right in the babymaker with a Justin Verlander fastball. No word on whether or not it was intentional, as Valdespin has been warned by the Mets to cut down on the showboating. But this being a meaningless spring training game and all, we’ll give Verlander the benefit of the doubt. That being said, if Valdespin  didn’t get the message about toning down the hotdogging before, he sure got it this time…loud and clear and extremely painful. Mike Puma, the Mets beat writer for the NY Post, had all the details of Valdespin’s unfortunate beaning… Valdespin leadoff homer against Verlander. It was Valdespin’s third homer of spring. — Mike Puma (@NYPost_Mets) March 11, 2013 Nice way to start a game, especially against a premier pitcher like Verlander. Valdespin drilled in groin area by 94 mph heater. — Mike Puma (@NYPost_Mets) March 11, 2013 Getting hit in the groin by anything harder than a feather is never fun. May have hit Valdespin square in the boys. — Mike Puma (@NYPost_Mets) March 11, 2013 /moment of silence for Jordany Valdespin’s soon-to-be swollen and painful boys I know Collins warned Valdespin two weeks ago that he was going to get drilled if he kept hotdogging. — Mike Puma (@NYPost_Mets) March 11, 2013 Just a guess, but I’m betting Valdespin reins in the hotdogging, at least for the foreseeable future. Valdespin says he is OK … Asked where he got hit: “My dick,” Valdespin said. — Mike Puma (@NYPost_Mets) March 11, 2013 Even in monumental pain Valdespin can be unintentionally hilarious. Kudos on that. Valdespin: ““Everything is good, working good, normally, everything is great.” — Mike Puma (@NYPost_Mets) March 11, 2013 Golf clap. Mets aren’t happy with Valdespin’s judgement – he wasn’t wearing a cup, I was just told. — Mike Puma (@NYPost_Mets) March 11, 2013 How could anyone be that reckless with the health and well-being of their most precious body part? If Valdespin continues making poor decisions like this one, he’ll either suffer a serious, debilitating injury, or be handed a front office job with the Mets.
