Today we took a look at the new look and surprisingly exciting New York Mets, giving you a mid season report on the team from Queens and hopefully providing some insight into their future value on the MLB odds board. Terry Collins has brought a never say die attitude to this ball club One of the reasons the Mets are 46-40 and in the race for the NL East division is the attitude that manager Terry Collins has installed in the Mets locker room. Collins brings in a ton of passion, fire and energy and the ball club has taken over their manager’s personality. The Mets are first in MLB in runs scored between the 7th and 9th inning, a clear indicator of a team that never quits and plays their heart out until the last out of the ball game. They also do not ever give any at bats away, being stingy hitters, fouling off the pitchers pitch and wait for their pitch to drive, which has resulted in an NL top 5 team batting average of .260. They are simply never out of a ball game. R.A. Dickey and...

R.A. Dickey: No Respect…No Respect At All

That phrase was made famous by comedian Rodney Dangerfield.  These days, it could be used in reference to R.A. Dickey, and knuckleballers in general.  It couldn’t have been more evident in what we saw take place during this week’s All-Star game. Dickey was one of the few feel good stories we’ve seen in baseball this year.  Major League Baseball had the chance to do the right...

Dickey not sharp in Mets' loss

R.A. Dickey has seen too much go wrong at Turner Field to believe he can waltz to an easy win. ''You don't ever want to take anything for granted here, and that's a tip of the hat to their lineup,'' he said. ''Every out is important, no matter how you get it.'' Jason Heyward singled to cap a three-run rally and the Atlanta Braves took advantage...

It’s time for Terry Collins to forgive Ramon Ramirez

Friday night Terry Collins used both Josh Edgin and Ramon Ramirez for 1.1 innings each. Saturday afternoon the Mets used only Edgin. New York used five relievers, including three different pitchers in the decisive eighth inning. Yet Ramirez was not one of them, the bullpen imploded and the Mets lost a toss-up game they really should have won. Ramirez is in the dog house and...

Worried Harvey Is Being Rushed? Collins Says Wheeler Could Be Coming Too…

If you had any concerns about the Mets possibly rushing Matt Harvey to the majors too soon, then you might want to sit down for this one… According to Brian Costa of the Wall Street Journal, Terry Collins told reporters this afternoon that Zack Wheeler is not out of the mix for a promotion to the majors this season. Collins threw that log into the fire while discussing Matt...

Jered Weaver, R.A. Dickey Early Favorites to Win Cy Young Award

With Major League Baseball on its All-Star Break until regular season games resume on Friday, Bovada has posted updated MLB player awards props involving the Cy Young and MVP in each league. The Red Sox thought they had two potential Cy Young candidates in the spring in Jon Lester and Josh Beckett, but pitchers have disappointed as Boston was just 12-20 in their 32 starts during...

Dickey Doesn't Knuckle Under Pressure: Steals Show On Letterman

Mets All Star Knuckleballer appeared on the Late Show with David Letterman last night, and suffice to say, he was a complete success. Some interesting points RA Dickey brought up was that a lot of the knuckle ball is about reputation. There isn't much respect until you can show that you can throw the knuckler for a strike. Dickey also said he throws the knuckle ball approximately...

Reverse shift: Braves rally, top Mets

Can Mets Win A Wild Card With One Of MLB’s Worst Defense?

Currently, the New York Mets are one of the three worst fielding teams in the Major Leagues. They have already tallied 63 errors this season. They are one-thousandth of a percentage point from having the worst fielding percentage in the NL. By position, the Mets lead the league in errors at center field and second base, and are second to last at right field and surprisingly first...

4 Bolder Predictions for the New York Mets in the Second Half of the Season

Let me begin by apologizing to Bleacher Report who inspired me to write this post after I read “4 Bold Predictions for the New York Mets in the Second Half of the Season“. Usually when I see the word “bold” used in a title like that, I expect to see someone going out on a limb or just predicting something insanely improbable. But after clicking through one of their patented...

In Today’s Major League Baseball World, Does the Word Rebuilding Still Mean Losing?

In this day and age in Major League Baseball it is normal to have teams like the New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, Anaheim Angels and even the Los Angeles Dodgers with huge salaries, top athletes and a winning attitude that enables each team to perform well on the field. Then you have smaller market teams like the Tampa Bay Rays, Washington Nationals and even the Pittsburgh...
