Familia Back On The Horse
Welcome back for another installment of the MMO Mets Minors Beat: The TGIF Edition! I’m your host Petey, and we have a lot to cover from this past week. There were some incredible pitching performances throughout the system, yet again. There were a ton of transactions, if you are into that sort of thing. And a few of the notable performers who are simply putting together outstanding seasons, have made it back into The Beat for like the umpteenth time. Guys like Collin McHugh, Wilmer Flores, Alonzo Harris, Richard Lucas, Cam Maron, Hansel Robles, and Jorge Rivero have been regulars here every week, but the way they are playing you can’t not mention them. So without further elaboration, here’s your newest version of the Mets Minors Beat: The Friday Edition, found only here on MMO.
Jeurys Familia – After a string of three straight starts in which he pitched poorly, from July 23rd until August 3rd, the 6’4″ 22-year-old has now tossed two good outings in...
BEST OF MAXIM
I’m not sure where rock bottom is for New York Mets starter Johan Santana, but after becoming the first pitcher in team history to allow six or more runs in five consecutive starts, I’m sure this is close. Last night Johan was rocked by the Nationals and after the game his pitching coach Dan Warthen, when posed with the question of shutting down the former ace for the remainder...
The title of this post begs to be asked.
Considering that Frank Francisco’s last two outings were-to put it mildly-disastrous, and the fact that he had to be bailed out by Jon Rauch on both occasions, Terry Collins could be leaning towards making Rauch his new closer.
Ever since he came off the DL, Francisco has not been quite the same. In four games back from the DL, Francisco...
Earler this week, Terry Collins made the announcement that the Mets are going to be trying out a six-man rotation for the rest of the season.
Starting Sunday will be Jeremy Hefner who will be able to give Johan and Chris Young, both coming off major shoulder surgery a chance to extra rest along with Jon Niese who has never finished a full season. I think that a bet like this, much...
The Binghamton Mets looked like they were on their way to a win on Friday night at NYSEG Stadium, and then watched that win fade away and turn into a blowout as the Richmond Flying Squirrels scored eight runs in the final two innings to take game one of the series by a score of 10-3.
Mark Cohoon, making his first start since a nine inning complete game gem against the Harrisburg...
Need For A Lefty In The Big Boy Pen? Why Not Tab The Guy You Already Have?
C.J. Nitkowski is a man among boys these days. The 39-year-old left-hander is throwing the ball extremely well at Buffalo with his version 2.0 side-arm pitching motion. As he becomes more and more comfortable with his new delivery, he feels more and more confident that he will get back to the show, despite...
Charlotte 6, St. Lucie 5
Jack Leathersich was hit hard in his relief appearance and St. Lucie took the series opening loss, 6-5.

T.J. Rivera – 2 for 4, 2 strikeouts
Aderlin Rodriguez – 2 for 4, 2 RBI, 1 strikeout
Cory Vaughn – 1 for 4, 2 stolen bases, 2 RBI, 1 run scored
Logan Verrett – 6 IP...
The New York Mets have been relegated to the role of spoilers, now that they’ve fallen back in the National League playoff races. They’ll try to live up to that title this weekend when they visit Washington, DC for three games with the NL East-leading Nationals.
New York just managed to take the final game of a three-game series in Cincinnati Thursday, beating the...
This milestone had never been accomplished by a New York Mets pitcher before, but it did not come with stunned gratitude by a fan base desperately waiting to see it finally occur. Instead, Johan Santana's season offered some cruel symmetry Friday night, when the first Met to throw a no-hitter back on June 1 earned a much more ignominious place in team history. He allowed...
Fred Wilpon is approached at Citi Field, asked about next year’s payroll and says “Ask Sandy.”
Sandy Alderson is approached a couple of days later with the same question and says “I haven’t discussed it with ownership yet.”
Which way does the wind blow? Will the player personnel budget increase or decrease further in 2013? Will moves be made to improve the disappointing...

Rookie Matt Harvey drove in one more run than he allowed in the longest outing of his short major league career, and the New York Mets snapped the Cincinnati Reds' five-game winning streak with an 8-4 victory on Thursday night.
Harvey (2-3), who had lost three straight starts after winning in his major league debut, allowed one run and four hits in 7 2-3 innings. He struck out...
As it becomes apparent that the Mets, as currently constituted, will not run away with the NL East this year, Mets’ fans are all anxiously anticipating this offseason’s upcoming deals feeling certain that we’ll find some improvement via the trade market.
Of course, Mets history has given us many more bad trades than good, but let’s look on the positive side, beginning with...
One of Jeurys Familia’s best starts of the season and a grand slam by Matt Den Dekker in the 7th helped the Bisons cruise to a 6-0 victory on Tuesday night.
In the 7th inning, following singles by Lucas Duda and Zach Lutz, an RBI double by Adam Loewen, and an intentional walk to Josh Satin, Matt Den Dekker hit a grand slam to put the game out of reach for Lehigh Valley.

I’ve never seen a perfect game in-person. I’ve never seen a no-hitter for that matter. I am the guy who is a lifelong Mets fan who was invited on a Friday night in June to watch Johan Santana and the Mets. I am the guy who declined. Allllrighty then!
Anyway, the point is that the drama around a no-hitter, and even moreso a perfect...
