In an effort to make me cringe, the Mets have decided that the best move for the team is to shift a promising front-line starter prospect, who is recovering from Tommy John surgery, into the bullpen.  I’m getting ahead of myself here.  Let us review the facts. The Mets signed Mejia as an Amateur Free Agent in 2007.  In 2009 he emerged as a pitcher of note as he obliterated FSL hitters in his first year in the league.  His display in Port St. Lucie earned him a call to Buffalo where he struggled but the Mets were now paying attention. During the Spring Training of 2010, Mejia turned a lot of heads.  Met fans began to wonder if they were seeing the future Ace of the staff emerge before their very eyes.  Jerry Manuel, the Met skipper hoped he had his salvation in the form of a positive media story.  What followed is a tale of what not to do with a talented young arm. The Mets used Mejia in relief… but not frequently and only in lower pressure situations.  When it became evident he wa...

Mets Jenrry Mejia getting ready in the minors for bullpen return to bigs

Triple-A manager Wally Backman said in Buffalo that the organization has now resolved to move Jenrry Mejia to a relief role with the International League club in preparation for a call-up to the majors in that capacity. Mejia made seven minor league starts across three levels in what was viewed as the rehab phase from Tommy John surgery, which was performed on May 16, 2011. ...

MMO Fair Or Foul: Forget Triple-A, Promote Zack Wheeler To The Mets Now

Hey, I haven’t done of these in a while, but after I read something over at ESPN New York this morning, I just knew it was time for a new edition of MMO Fair or Foul… Each week, ESPN senior baseball editor Matt Meyers and Mets blogger Mark Simon convene to discuss the upcoming week for the Mets. I think you’re going to find today’s discussion kind of interesting. Check...

Bobby Parnell’s ugly outings highlight the need for Mejia in the pen

It was a weekend to forget for most on the Mets and Bobby Parnell is among those who would like to erase the games from both his memory and his stat line. Parnell pitched in the last two games of the series and gave up runs in both outings. His line for the two games: 1 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, 1 HR and a blown save. The last two games were just a continuation of a recent stretch...

MMO Roundtable: The Bobby Parnell Conundrum

Bobby Parnell is an enigma… He’s got the one thing you crave in closer a rocket for an arm. Consistently checking in at 99 mph and frequently topping 100, you would think the Mets had themselves someone they could rely on to step into the eighth or ninth innings to finish off the opposition and secure a win for the Mets. But Parnell has been anything but a sure thing and the...

2012 Mets Not Quite “There” Yet

Well, if anything was proven this past weekend, it’s that the talent gap between the two New York teams is as wide as ever. While it’s been a fun year so far in Met land, it has become clear that they can’t quite compete with their neighbors to the north. If someone told you Johan Santana would be pummeled, but the rest of the starting pitching would be pretty good, you...

Subway Series – Always A No-Win Situation For The Mets

This weekend’s three game sweep at the hands of the hated New York Yankees resulted in a number of things.  In the process, the Mets have now dropped six of their last seven games and fallen to a mere three games above .500 for the first time since May 24th.  Their all-time record against their crosstown rivals..a disappointing 35-52.  Worse yet, having had a chance to move...

Dead? Or Undead?

Dillon Gee said his body "felt dead" during Saturday night's 4-2 loss to the Yankees, during which he surrendered three runs in seven innings. The right-hander did not mean that he was injured in any way -- just that every time he returned to the dugout after pitching an inning, his body shut down like the outing was over.Gee said the culprit might have been the cold...

Game Preview: Mets @ Yankees

The Mets try to salvage the series today as they take on Andy Pettitte for game three of the Subway Series. The Mets have dropped the first two games of the series and really need to bounce back. Yesterday the Mets had the pitching but outside of solo homers, the offense fell short. Niese will try to get the Mets back on the right track today. On the season he is 4-2 with a 4.11...

Game Preview: Mets @ Rays

A lot of people deal with stress and hard times at work the same way, they go on vacation. Popular vacation spot in the Summer? Florida. So the Mets are going down south for three days in an attempt to get their season back on track. A week ago the Mets were one of the best teams in baseball. After last week, that feeling has evaporated. As quickly as that feeling disappeared, I’m...

What’s on my mind: A little bit of draft, Santana’s no-hitter and gaming

Last week, the MLB held another edition of the June Amateur Draft, and the most relevant story was that Mark Appel didn't get drafted until the 7th pick when most people thought he was going to be the first pick overall. The first pick instead was shortstop Carlos Correa from Puerto Rico. Now, the Pirates and Appel, who is being advised by Scott Boras face a complicated situation...
