Last Night’s Quick Scores Las Vegas had their game suspended due to rain.  Binghamton dropped to Trenton, 5-0.  St. Lucie topped Daytona, 6-2.  Savannah dropped two games to Hickory, 4-3 and 5-3.  Prospect News The Florida State League has announced that St. Lucie Mets outfielder Travis Taijeron was named the league’s Player of the Week for the period of April 29 – May 5. Taijeron batted .474 and had nine hits, including one home run and six doubles in six games. He had a .600 on-base percentage and .947 slugging percentage. Taijeron, an 18th round selection out of Cal Poly Pomona in 2011, has hit safely in eight straight games. Taijeron, 24, is hitting .266 with two home runs and 11 RBIs in 29 games played . Prospect Pipeline Welcome back T.J. Rivera. We haven’t mentioned Rivera in the Minors Report for a couple of weeks and he was tired of being ignored, so he went out and got five hits in last night’s game. The lead off man now leads St. Lucie with a .292 average and is second...

Lucas Duda Unfairly Criticized On Plate Approach

Ever since Lucas Duda burst into our consciousness in 2010, nobody has been satisfied with his plate approach. Too many strikeouts and not enough walks, I frequently wrote. He gives away too many at-bats. He tries to pull too much and doesn’t use the entire field. All valid in the early Duda critique. DUDA: Has the right approach (AP). Now, unbelievably, he’s become too selective...

Mets Minors Report 5/8: Nimmo Still Out, Bowman K’s 7 In FSL Debut, Montero Is White Hot

Last Night’s Quick Scores Las Vegas edged out Round Rock, 3-2.  Binghamton dropped to Trenton, 5-1.  St. Lucie blasted Daytona, 13-3.  Savannah topped Hickory, 9-6.  Prospect Pipeline It was supposed to be an epic matchup of top pitching prospects in Trenton, between the B-Mets and the Trenton Thunder yesterday — the Double-A version of the Subway Series. Rafael Montero...

Matt Harvey: The Mets Have Their Ace

Once upon a time, not so long ago, the Mets had a top ten prospect named Zack Wheeler who was deemed the heir apparent to their oft-maligned rotation.  It had to be Wheeler, who would assume the role of staff ace.  Especially with the controversial trade of surprising knuckleballer, RA Dickey.  It seemed unanimous that Wheeler, his high nineties fastball, and array of formidable...

Matt Harvey and His Bloody Nose Are Dialed In

Matt Harvey, who pitches for the Mets, was very dialed in on Tuesday night as his Mets took on the Chicago White Sox. The 24-year-old flamethrower was so dialed in that he didn’t even realize that his nose was bleeding. The bloody nose definitely didn’t bother Harvey as he pitched a perfect first inning and had a strikeout. [Mets Blog] Article found on: Next Impulse Sports

Memorable sports moment of the week – Darryl Strawberry debuts as a professional with the New York Mets

Famed right fielder Darryl Strawberry debuted as a professional with the New York Mets 30 years ago today on May 6, 1983. The 21-year-old Strawberry, taken by New York out of Crenshaw High School in Los Angeles with the first overall pick in the 1980 MLB Draft, recorded his first hit two days later on May 8. Throughout the 1980s and early 1990s, the 6-foot-6, 200 pound Strawberry...

White Sox vs Mets Preview: Spin Is In, Duda Cleaning Up, Hefner Looks To Complete Sweep

Starting Lineups Game Notes The Mets held the White Sox to one hit over 10 innings last night. It was the second 10-inning one-hitter in team history. Terry Leach hurled a 10-inning one hitter on October 1, 1982 at Philadelphia in a game the Mets won, 1-0. Luis Aguayo had a fifth-inning triple in that game. The last 10-inning one-hitter in the majors was May 28, 2011 when the...

Torres Rocked For Nine Runs In 9-5 Vegas Loss

Round Rock 9, Las Vegas 5 I am not a mean-spirited guy when it comes to baseball, honestly, but why is Carlos Torres on our AAA team? He was lit up again on Wednesday night for a grand total of nine earned runs over 4+ innings and it was just a really rough performance. He allowed five of those runs in the top of the first alone, capped off by a three-run homer by Jim Adduci....

A Smashing Ceremonial First Pitch At Citi Field

The CEO for the Omaha Storm Chasers and lifelong Mets fan was chosen to throw out the ceremonial first pitch last night before the New York Mets contest with the Chicago White Sox. It is probably a safe bet that Gary Green will not be invited back for any pre-game festivities after Green sailed the pitch over the head of John Buck smashing the TV camera protective glass behind home...

Misplaced Luck And Lost Brain Cells

I'll be completely honest with you. I was at the Rangers game tonight. I don't have quite as good a record as Matt Harvey does at Ranger games, but it was a very workmanlike performance by me as the Rangers tied up their series against the Caps 4-3. (And by workmanlike performance, I mean ... I did nothing to help.) And I really had the best of intentions to come...
