Mets News and Notes:
Tim Byrdak is due to get an MRI to help determine the extent of the damage to his left shoulder today. There may be word as well whether Kirk Nieuwenhuis requires surgery for the plantar fascia tear in his right foot, which he suffered with Buffalo.
Johan Santana tossed three scoreless innings in a rehab start for Brooklyn on Sunday night. Terry Collins expects the 33-year-old left-hander will be activated from the DL on Saturday to face the Braves. Santana threw 38 pitches (29 strikes) while surrendering one hit and one walk and striking out three. He upped his pitch count to 90 by throwing in the bullpen at Coney Island afterward. Santana landed on the DL with a right-ankle sprain, although team officials believe that contributed to shoulder fatigue.
"My whole right side feels good," Santana told Stephen Haynes in Newsday. "Even though my ankle was what was bothering me, I was able to rest my whole body. That's something I ...

Jason Bay is Going Nowhere
In what was an exciting day for the Mets as they unveiled their logo for next seasons All-Star Game, Met fans got what they should now be used to by now. Good news in one hand and bad news in the other. The bad news pertains to, as it lately always does, Jason Bay.
Mets GM Sandy Alderson stated that the Mets would not be eating Jason Bay’s current contract with the team in order...

Mets not moving Jason Bay?
The Mets are trying to figure out what to do with the struggling Jason Bay, but it sounds like the team already has its plans set.
Even the most patient person understands its time for Jason Bay to go
I have among the most patience when it comes to my sports teams. Unlike a lot other NY sports fans, I root for the uniform and want the best for every player on my favorite teams. I look at all the players as human beings and know that nobody wants to lose their edge or struggle as bad as Jason Bay has. Factor in the amount of money Bay is owed through next season, and it is...
Mets News and Notes: Byrdak, Olson, Nieuwenhuis, Tejada, Reyes, Hefner
Mets News and Notes:
Reliever Tim Byrdak has an anterior capsule tear in his left shoulder. That's a career-threatening diagnosis since Byrdak is 38 years old. Johan Santana and Chris Young both had anterior capsule tears, and required surgeries that cost significant time. The Mets did not announce a firm surgery decision for the lefty reliever, who is 2-2 with a 4.40 ERA...
Slump-dogged millionaire Bay will be part of platoon for Mets
For weeks, the New York Mets have defended Jason Bay, blaming his poor numbers at the plate on rustiness. Bay has never gotten going after fracturing a rib and suffering a concussion over the season's first three months. But with Bay still scuffling, the Mets are beginning to explore other options. Manager Terry Collins said before Tuesday's 4-2 loss to the Marlins that...

Jose Reyes and his 24 game hitting streak return to Flushing. The former (it still kills me to write this) Mets SS has been on a rampage in raising his average to .288 and his OBP to .351. Hopefully this time the Flushing Faithful will cheer Jose and Jeer the Marlins.
