Mets News and Notes:
The Mets have yet to have discussions with representatives for David Wright and R.A. Dickey about years and dollars on contract extensions, according to the Daily News.
Both players have team options for 2013.
It stands to reason at this point that both players' options will be picked up shortly after the World Series to keep them under the Mets' control while the sides talk about longer-term deals.

Wally Backman will remain the Mets' Triple-A manager for 2013.
Backman managed Buffalo to a 67-76 record this past season, in his third season managing in the minors for the organization. The Mets' Triple-A affiliate is moving to Las Vegas for next season.
There was no turnover on the Mets' major league coaching staff.

“They should sign David [long term],” Reyes said. “He’s been the face of the franchise for a long time. If they let him go, that’s gonna be difficult to see the New York Mets without...
Mets ready to sign David Wright to BIG Extension?
Reasons to Smile?
New York Post's Joel Sherman has spoken to more than ten executives outside the Mets organization who believe the team will re-sign David Wright and relatively soon.
It's a public relations move as much as a baseball move, plus getting him signed quickly will allow them to fine tune their off-season plans.
Officials expect Wright to receive a six...
Mets Have Not Discussed Years or Dollars with Wright or Dickey
The Mets have not moved past any of the preliminary dialog with both David Wright and R.A. Dickey about potential contract extensions for both, according to Andy Martino of the Daily News.
They have yet to even broach the subject of years and dollars with either player, and any discussions have been casual and preliminary and they have not advanced into anything substantive....
Mets Must Lock-Up Wright, Dickey
By SBRForum.com
The New York Mets don’t have a lot of financial flexibility this offseason and while they have many holes to fill, two of their main priorities will be David Wright and R.A. Dickey.
Both Wright and Dickey have club options for the 2013 season, so it’s not as if there is immediate urgency to make the moves now, but it’s likely to happen sooner rather than later...
Mets must keep David Wright in Queens, Jose Reyes agrees
According to ESPN New York, former Mets short stop, Jose Reyes, attended last night’s New York Knicks vs. Brooklyn Nets game at the Barkley Center and told reporters it would be “difficult to see the New York Mets without David Wright,” saying:
“They should sign David (long term). He’s been the face of the franchise for a long time.If they let him go, that’s gonna be...
Mets Financial Situation Improving
Although the New York Mets are not expected to be serious players in the free agent market because they are still somewhat cash-strapped, the good news is that the further they move away from the Bernie Madoff lawsuit, the more financial breathing room they have.
This offseason, they are expected to be able to retain two key foundational pieces: David Wright and R.A. Dickey. While...
The Mets are talking to Wright and Dickey about contract extensions
The New York Mets have been talking to R.A. Dickey and David Wright about contract extensions, according to Andy Martino of the Daily News.
Mike Puma hinted to the idea earlier this month that contract extensions for Wright and Dickey might be complete by the World Series. The Mets hold club options on both Wright and Dickey for 2013 with a combined $21 million for the 2013 season...
Wholesale Change #1 – Mets Claim Catcher Anthony Recker Off Waivers From Cubs
We’re going to track all the wholesale changes for you as they go down this off-season, and on that note I have the great pleasure of announcing that the Mets have claimed catcher Anthony Recker off waivers from the Chicago Cubs.
Recker, 29, played for both the Cubs and the Oakland A’s (so he must be good) last season and was even on their Opening Day roster. However, the right...
Recker Claimed by Mets, Four Others Outrighted to Iowa
Catcher Anthony Recker (Designated for Assignment yesterday to make room the 40-man roster for RHP Carlos Gutierrez) was claimed off waivers today by the New York Mets, and RHP Jason Berken (claimed off waivers from Baltimore in September), 2B Adrian Cardenas (claimed off waiver from Oakland last February), RHP Marcos Mateo (who was on the 60-day DL after undergoing TJS in June)...
Backman Will Return To Manage Las Vegas 51′s
Although they have a new team, the Mets Triple-A affiliates will still have the same man at the helm. Wally Backman will return as manager, this time for the Las Vegas 51′s.
Backman led the Buffalo Bisons to a 67-76 record in 2012, a last place finish in the International League’s North Division, but nonetheless has agreed to continue managing the club in 2013.
What I wonder...
Cubs claim Gutierrez off waivers, designate Recker
The Chicago Cubs have claimed right-handed pitcher Carlos Gutierrez off waivers from the Minnesota Twins and designated catcher Anthony Recker for assignment.

Mets Considering Exhibition Game In Las Vegas
According to the Star-Ledger, Mets officials are considering playing an exhibition game next spring in Las Vegas before the 2013 season begins.
Yesterday, the Mets announced that Wally Backman will return as manager, this time for the Las Vegas 51′s, the new Triple-A affiliate for the organization.
Backman led the Buffalo Bisons to a 67-76 record in 2012, a last place finish...
A Met fan’s guide to fixing a leaky ship
I’ve been reading the Aubrey/Maturin Series by Patrick O’Brian so nautical metaphors are making a lot of sense. In the second of twenty one novels ‘Post Captain’ Jack Aubrey is posted into the HMS Polychrest (Also known as the “Carpenter’s Mistake”) a poorly designed and poorly built ship. In the HMS Polychrest I see an apt match for the New York Mets, which probably...
