After about a week of rumors regarding Brandon Lyon signing with the New York Mets, it appears the two sides have finally reached an agreement, pending a physical. #bbpBox_299532687532781568 a { text-decoration:none; color:#009999; }#bbpBox_299532687532781568 a:hover { text-decoration:underline; } #mets are in agreement on deal with brandon lyon, pending physical about 1 hour ago via Twitter for BlackBerry®ReplyRetweetFavorite @JonHeymanCBS Jon Heyman Apparently it didn’t take long to get that physical set up: #bbpBox_299545049975361536 a { text-decoration:none; color:#0084B4; }#bbpBox_299545049975361536 a:hover { text-decoration:underline; } Brandon Lyon is in the midst of his physical with #Mets. It’ll be a one-year deal. 34 minutes ago via EchofonReplyRetweetFavorite @AdamRubinESPN Adam Rubin Last week it was reported that the Mets were not comfortable with Frank Francisco, so this move gives them another option with significant closing experience. Over his 11-year big league career the right-hander has compiled 79 saves and last year, while with Houston and Toronto, the 33-year-old righty registered a 3.10 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 63/20 K/BB ratio over 61 innings. I think it’s safe to assume that the position of closer will be a battle that’s won in Spring Training and that certainly might be the reason why Lyon chose New York over other landing spots.  However, according to Kevin Kernan of the New York Post, Mets manager Terry Collins says Frank Francisco is still his man.  Francisco, of course, agrees: Frank Francisco made his closing argument yesterday. This is an open and shut case. “I am the closer,’’ Francisco told The Post at the Mets spring-training complex. As for GM Sandy Alderson’s recent resistance to name Francisco the club’s 2013 closer, the right-hander smiled and said he does not read news reports about the team. Instead, he offered his own succinct report: “I’m going to let it roll,’’ he said. “I will be the closer. That’s my mentality.’’ Francisco, who is in the final year of his contract, owns 67 saves over the last four seasons and is confident he will get more. Manager Terry Collins has no doubts, either. “He is the closer,’’ Collins said. Collins had just made a dash across the complex to meet with Francisco in the minor league clubhouse. Collins was thrilled with the results of their talk. “We saw last year when he is right, he is good,’’ Collins said. “I think he looks good. He is in the right frame of mind.’’ A manager is supposed to back his players to an extent, so we’ll see how long Collins continues to do so now that Brandon Lyon is aboard and Bobby Parnell has another year of experience under his belt.
