New York Mets
The Mets are playing these days without their starting shortstop, Ruben Tejada, who is sidelined because of a strained right groin. They also are playing without their starting catcher, Josh Thole, who has a concussion. They are playing without their starting left fielder, Jason Bay, who is recovering from a fractured left rib. And they are playing without one of their starting pitchers, Mike Pelfrey, who recently underwent Tommy John surgery. Every one of those players was thriving before his injury. Yet the Mets are also somehow winning, sweeping the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park and taking five games in a row overall to poast an 18-13 record. For a team that appeared to boast little roster depth heading into the season, the Mets have been able to cobble together victories with a cast of rookies, backups and career journeymen. "The way we've gotten to where we are right now is that there's been so many different people who have come through," m...

When SNY's cameras pan to Daniel Murphy in the dugout of a closely contested game, you'll see it all out on his sleeve. Each strike thrown to a batter is met with a look of concern, while each base hit is greeted with applause and an enthusiastic reaction. Just as he lives and dies with each pitch, Murphy is often the first on the field after a walk-off and the first to believe...
The New York Mets completed the three-game sweep of the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday night and rallied to win 10-6:
The win marked the clubs fifth in-a-row, as they improved to five games over .500 for the first time since July 19th 2010. Trailing 4-2 after six innings, the Mets rallied to pick up their MLB best 11th comeback victory. Following the game, manager Terry...
Several times this season the Mets answered a winning streak with a losing one. They have won five straight and you wouldn’t be wrong to wonder if the other shoe will drop this weekend in Miami.
Great timing to have Johan Santana start in the opener.
While you and I might wonder, nobody in the Mets’ clubhouse is thinking along those lines. Terry Collins won’t allow it.
I know it’s early, but the promising start to the 2012 campaign for Mets former top prospect Wilmer Flores is extremely encouraging. He was ranked at the top of the organization in recent years due to his hitting ability and future potential, but did not live up to the hype on the field. So far this season he is showing that maybe all that talk of him being a big time hitter...
Chris Young tossed five scoreless innings tonight as St. Lucie beat Brevard County 4-3. It was his first official minor league game since undergoing May 16, 2011 surgery to repair a torn anterior capsule in his right shoulder.
Young allowed five hits and two walks while striking out four batters.
Young is expected to make 3-4 more minor league starts at a higher level before joining...
The New York Mets (17-13) will look to sweep the Phialdelphia Phillies (14-17) at Citizens Bank Park tonight for the first time since 2006 in a game that could set a new high-water mark for the club.Dillon Gee (2-2, 4.50 ERA) will take the mound in a park that he has faired terribly in thus far in his career, posting a 10.22 ERA in 12 1/3 innings through two starts and relief appearance...
The New York Mets had their five-game win streak snapped with a 6-5 loss to the Miami Marlins on Friday night:
THIS ONE SUCKED: Frank Francisco entered the game in the bottom of the ninth inning looking to close the door on the Marlins and secure the Mets sixth straight victory. Instead, Francisco allowed two runs on three hits.
Francisco allowed a lead off double to Giancarlo...
Man of the people
The art of the knuckleball is almost lost in Major League Baseball, but there is one man keeping that art alive. His name is R.A. Dickey, of the New York Mets. With the recent departure and retirement of Tim Wakefield from MLB, R.A. Dickey is the last remaining “knuckleballer” in the “League.” For those who don’t know, a “knuckleballer” is a pitcher who...
In a season of dominant bullpen work, the St. Lucie Mets won a nail biter by a score of 4-3 despite shaky work out of the ‘pen.
Chris Young made his first rehab start of the year since going down with a torn shoulder capsule in early 2011. Young went five shutout frames, scattering five hits and two walks while punching out four. If he can stay healthy, and that is a BIG if, he...
David Wright is playing so well. He is batting .376 with 3 homeruns and 18 RBIs. He has become the leader of this clubhouse, and If you have watched the Mets in the past decade he is “the last man standing” from the “old Mets”. Somebody make this man captain of our team!
An offense that seems to be mainly in neutral, a bullpen that is leaking losses and now a defense that is making mistakes, help the Phils lose their second straight series, as they lose to the Mets, 7-4.
The Phils jumped off to a quick 2-0 lead as, with one man on, and with two men out, Hunter Pence hits a two-run home run, his seventh home run of the season, knocking in Juan Pierre...
The Mets are making their first trip down to South Beach to check out the new home of the Miami Marlins. This time last week, the Mets were on the decline, and the Marlins were on the rise. Since then, the Mets have put themselves on a five game winning streak and the Marlins have still played good ball. The Mets will be sending out Santana tonight as Buehrle gets his second start...
PHILADELPHIA -- Ike Davis hit a three-run homer and the New York Mets scored eight runs off Philadelphia's bullpen in a 10-6 victory that completed a three-game sweep over the slumping Phillies on Wednesday night. Andres Torres also hit a homer, and the Mets rallied for the third straight game to improve to 18-13. The loss spoiled the return of Cliff Lee for the Phillies...
