I know that on Friday I reported that a Mets source had told the NY Post that there was zero chance the Mets would get Pedro Martinez, but now Steve Popper of the Record is reporting something that would dispel that earlier report. Don't rule out Pedro Martinez just yet. While some Mets' officials continue to claim that the marriage has ended, one person familiar with the discussions said Sunday that the Mets are among the teams that have begun to request financial requirements with the 37-year-old right-hander. The Mets publicly have maintained that they are content with the group of candidates they have for the fifth spot in their rotation. But that list grew shorter by one Saturday when Tim Redding was shut down. Now the choice is from among Livan Hernandez, Jon Niese and Freddy Garcia.
