The New York Mets have gotten “serious” about trading 2012 Cy Young Award-winning right-hander R.A. Dickey, and they could move the veteran “as soon as this week,” reports Jayson Stark of ESPN. Sources say #Mets have gotten "serious" about trading R.A. Dickey as soon as this week. #Rangers & #Royals seen as most logical fits. — Jayson Stark (@jaysonst) December 3, 2012 While the Mets have gone back and forth on either signing or trading Dickey, who’s in the final year of his contract, the team is now reportedly shopping the right-hander. Yesterday there was significant interest expressed in Dickey, according to reports. New York held preliminary talks with the Boston Red Sox, while the Los Angeles Dodgers have also reportedly spoken with the Mets about Dickey. Stark listed the Texas Rangers and Kansas City Royals as the “most logical fits,” while the Arizona Diamondbacks and Toronto Blue Jays both discussed Dickey with the Mets. However, talks with at least the Diamondbacks didn’t get far, as New York’s asking price is reportedly very high. Last season Dickey posted an ERA and WHIP of 2.73 and 1.053. Over his last three seasons in New York the 38-year-old has maintained an ERA and WHIP of 2.95 and 1.150 with 6.8 strikeouts and 2.2 walks per nine innings. The Age Factor: Reason Mets Are Reluctant To Sign Dickey, Is Why Teams Are Reluctant To Trade For Him

If GM Sandy Alderson spent as much energy trying to sign R. A. Dickey as he has trying to trade him, the contract would be done by now. A difference maker, by definition, would mean a proven commodity, as Alderson said he’s...
