Found April 25, 2013 on Mets Merized Online:
There were no extra-inning dramatics in this one – no buck shots either – as the Mets squandered a solid start from Jeremy Hefner in a 3-2 matinee loss to the Dodgers. Hefner gave the Mets seven solid innings on the mound, allowing just one run on three hits and three walks while striking out three. He didn’t figure into the decision and left with the game knotted at 1-1. The Mets scored their first run on a sac-fly by David Wright in the sixth. Andre Ethier broke the tie with an RBI single off Scott Rice in the ninth to give the Dodgers the lead and would be charged with another run when Juan Uribe drove in what would prove to be a valuable insurance run on an infield hit off Bobby Parnell. Ike Davis made things a little interesting when he led off the ninth with a homer to pull the Mets within one, but the team went down quietly after that, losing the game and also suffering their first series loss at home this season. Like yesterday, the Mets had many opportunities, but went 0-fo...

What’s Happened To Josh Edgin?

What happened to the Josh Edgin who came up and immediately became one of the more reliable and dominant relievers out of our bullpen last year? As if his his 10.80 ERA and 1.97 WHIP in 10 appearances wasn’t bad enough, I took a quick glance at his splits and it really showed me how bad things really have gotten for Edgin since last season. Versus LH Batters – 368 Versus...

Pie In The Face Was A Cheap Shot, Valdespin’s Teammates Owe Him An Apology

What was supposed to be a thrilling night after a dramatic walk-off win courtesy of a Jordany Valdespin grand slam has turned into an evening of anger and confusion. What the hell was the deal with that pie to the face by John Buck? Check out this GIF courtesy of @MetsKevin11 on Twiitter: That was messed up. It wasn’t just a pie to the face, it was more like an F-U Kid...

Is Terry Collins The Reason Why Josh Edgin Lost His Edge?

Updated on 4/26 I got an interesting email from Kevin (K Maxx) this morning who asked, “if Terry Collins is so concerned about Josh Edging being overworked, why does he keep overworking him?” I did a quick check and was shocked to see that Edgin made 75 appearances last season between the Mets and the minors. That would have placed him tenth in the NL. The 75 appearances was...

Mets Card of the Week: Mystery Met Episode 3

OK, the first two episodes of Mystery Met were the equivalent of trivia spring training. I was just working on my proverbial fastball, and breaking off the occasional metaphorical curve. But I’m loose and limber now, and ready to go a full nine… So here’s the windup, and the pitch: Name the one-time Met pictured here, and you’ll win a 1964 PSA 7 Topps George Altman, plus...

Mets Fans, Band Together To Alter All-Star Game Voting!

Year after year we argue about how this player or that player deserved to be the All-Star Game starter and not the inferior player who got voted in by the fans. It’s generally become a popularity contest rather than a vote for who has been the most deserving player. I understand that MLB tries to get the fans involved in as many ways as possible. It’s a great public relations...

The Birth Of El Dramático

I felt so good after last night’s game that I decided to write two posts. This begins my official campaign to nickname Jordany Valdespin. It’s a great feeling to hit your first home run of the season. That’s not enough for Valdespin though. He has to hit a walk-off home run. Yeah, that should be good enough for ‘Spin, right? Wrong. His first home run of the season has to...

Matt Harvey’s High Fastball Dominance

The hard-throwing, 24-year-old Matt Harvey has quickly become a must watch when he toes the rubber for the Mets. Called up in late July of last year, Harvey and his blistering fastball (94.6 average velocity) currently sport a 31.3% strikeout rate and an ERA- of 25 — no, not 75, 25. In 2013, Harvey has made four starts, lasting at least seven innings in each appearance. He has...
