Found June 12, 2013 on Mets Merized Online:
Now this is a good idea… Terry Collins just spoke to reporters and said when Zack Wheeler is promoted for his first start on Tuesday in Atlanta, the Mets will go with a six-man rotation for at least one turn. Here is what it looks like: Thursday vs Cardinals: Matt Harvey Friday vs Cubs: Shaun Marcum Saturday vs Cubs: Jon Niese Sunday vs Cubs: Jeremy Hefner Monday at Braves: Dillon Gee Tuesday at Braves: Zack Wheeler and Matt Harvey (Doubleheader) Considering where this season is heading, I wouldn’t mind going with a six-man rotation for the rest of the entire season. Why not? It would put less wear and tear on Wheeler, Jon Niese and Matt Harvey. Plus once we move Shaun Marcum at the deadline (at least I hope they do), we can make room for possibly Rafael Montero to join the rotation. On Monday, Sandy Alderson said he’d have no reservations promoting Montero from Double-A to the majors.

Wheeler’s 2013 Is Critical

With the hinted announcement that Zack Wheeler could be making his major league debut on June 18th, the Mets are officially on the clock for the future. June 18th is vital to the Mets future success, and it’s probably not for reasons you may think I am going to say. They need to trade Wheeler, if not for the team’s sake – then for his sake. Wheeler is never, ever going to live...

Wheeler Sharp In Final Tune-Up

Well, maybe Zack Wheeler just needed a vote of confidence from the front office, as he turned in a great performance on the heels of his promotion next week. Adam Rubin reported earlier in the day that Wheeler was on an 85-pitch count limit — and he made good use of all of those pitches. 52 out of his 85 pitches went for strikes. He allowed just one hit over five-and-two-thirds...

Zack Wheeler sharp in final Triple-A start before debut

New York Mets top pitching prospect Zack Wheeler turned in what very well may end up being his final minor league start for quite some time.  The 23-year-old went 5 1/3 innings against Tacoma giving up just 1 run on 1 hit while striking out seven. The lone hit was a home run to Carlos Peguero and that mistake proved costly enough to pin Wheeler with the loss on the evening as...

In His Final Tuneup Before Debut, Wheeler Will Be On 85 Pitch Limit Tonight

Looks like Harvey-Wheeler Day is still on… Thanks Mother Nature… Matt Musico from MetsMinors.net just posted the following: Zack Wheeler will be making his final minor league start tonight before getting promoted to the major leagues. He’s set to debut on Tuesday at Turner Field against the Atlanta Braves, about 45 minutes away from his childhood home. He takes the mound tonight...

Is Harvey Day a Problem?

Please…enough.  I am just as big a fan of Harvey as the next Mets fan.  Believe me, I follow the numbers, I watch the games, I go to a handful of starts.  I know that this guy is more than lightning in a bottle – if anything, he’s a hurricane in a treasure chest…I think? Anyway, the point is, it’s simply embarrassing.  It is! By organizing ‘Harvey Day’ the organization...

Tough Times in Las Vegas

Zack Wheeler pulled a Matt Harvey on Thursday night and took a tough loss.  He pitched well, up until a home run was given up to Carlos Peguero in the fifth inning, in hitter-friendly Las Vegas.  He then settled back in to retire the next two batters to end the inning.  In the sixth inning, he proceeded to strike out the next two batters, and then rising star Jack Leathersich...

Zack Wheeler Strong in AAA Start, Ready For the Show

New York Mets prospect Zack Wheeler turned in a strong pitching performance in what should be his last minor-league start before his major-league debut on June 18.  Wheeler took a no-hitter into the fifth inning before Carlos Peguero hit a solo home run with one out.Peguero homered twice and drove in three runs while Ben Tenbrink had three RBIs for the Tacoma.Wheeler struck out...

Mets Waste A Gem By Harvey In 2-1 Loss To Cards

Well, this is sort of becoming the norm now, isn’t it? You can almost predict exactly what’s going to happen. Matt Harvey goes out, pitches his heart out, and somehow gets cheated out of a win. As much as we all hoped for that streak to break today, the Mets offense was not up to the task of handling Adam Wainwright. The Mets were shut down through the first seven innings by...

Matt Harvey Has Become The New Johan Santana

Matt Harvey has become the new Johan Santana of the Mets, and that is not in reference to his skills or his emergence into the staff’s ace. Harvey has been lights out all season long, and should have at least ten wins under his belt. However despite his 2.04 ERA, Matt Harvey sits at 5-1 on the year, that one loss coming last night after he allowed just a lone run over seven frames...

Mets With Money To Spend in 2014? Extend Matt Harvey

It took the Mets thirty innings, ten hours and one rainout to lose two more games to the Miami Marlins over the weekend. That makes five straight losses to Miami, over successive weekends. Let that sink in for a minute. The Miami. Marlins. The Marlins, who have won just 18 of their 63 games. The Marlins, who do not have a winning record against any team in either league ...

Series preview: Mets offer one compelling matchup

The Cardinals did not face Mets ace Matt Harvey when the teams played a four-game series at Busch Stadium last month. They will not miss Harvey this week at Citi Field. The 24-year-old right-hander will oppose Cardinals ace Adam Wainwright in a Thursday matinee matching two pitchers in contention to start the All-Star Game. Harvey, in his second season, has emerged as one of the...

Mets' ties define All-Star coaches

Current Mets manager Terry Collins and former skipper Davey Johnson have been selected as coaches for next month's All-Star game at Citi Field. Johnson, currently Washington's skipper, managed the Mets to their last World Series title in 1986. They were picked Thursday by San Francisco's Bruce Bochy, the NL's manager. Detroit's Jim Leyland, the AL manager, also...

Wainwright v Harvey Duel

Thursday night saw three extra inning games, but the afternoon game started the day with a bang. Adam Wainwright out dueled Matt Harvey to earn his MLB leading 10th win. Jacoby Ellsbury stole his MLB leading 30th base of the season for the Red Sox. Yu Darvish struck out nine, but suffered a no decision; his 127 strikeouts leads the majors.Cardinals 2 v Mets 1: Adam Wainwright out...
