Breaking News! The Mets have traded their NL Cy Young award winner R.A. Dickey to the Torono Blue Jays this Monday. The full details of this trade involves a total of seven players and here is the list of seven players being traded: The Mets will receive C Travis D'Arnaud, C John Buck, P Noah Syndergaard and OF Wuilmer Becerra. The Blue Jays will receive P R.A. Dickey, C Josh Thole and C Mike Nickeas. Top catching prospect Travis D'Arnaud was the main key of this trade that just went down almost an hour ago. He is the best catching prospect in all of baseball and should join the Mets by opening day or in the middle of the 2013 season. At Least they got rid of Josh Thole and Mike Nickeas who both of those guys were terrible with the Mets in the past two seasons. They upgraded the catching position by getting Travis D'Arnaud who can be an all-star catcher according to MLB scouts. And John Buck gives the Mets experience, some pop on his bat and is an upgrade over Josh Thole anyday. Mets GM Sandy Alderson is rebuilding for the future by making this trade, even though they won't use the word rebuild. But that's what they are doing right now. Good luck R.A. Dickey who had a great career with the Mets and hope he does well with the Blue Jays.

The Skinny: Travis d’Arnaud and Noah Syndergaard

With the last hurdle of the R.A. Dickey to Toronto deal approaching, the trade is as good as done. In this deal, the Mets will be giving up Dickey, Josh Thole and an unannounced prospect who isn’t believed to be a top-ranked player. The Mets will be receiving MLB catcher John Buck, catching prospect Travis d’Arnaud, RHP prospect Noah Syndergaard and a player to be named later...

How The Mets Seduced And Swayed The Fanbase

A Marked Man: Dickey at the Mets Holiday Party. The Mets haven’t done many things right in the last half decade, and God knows they’ve paid the price with plenty of bad press and a sorely tarnished image. Have no fear… I’m not about to resurrect all the bad memories of the last five years and point out every single thing that has gone horribly wrong. On the contrary, this...

R.A. Dickey and the Price of a Window

The Mets got involved in contract extension negotiations with R.A. Dickey, and Dickey’s requested price seemed to be reasonable, but for whatever reason, the Mets didn’t want to pay it. Possibly because they don’t trust Dickey in the longer term, possibly because they don’t think they’re ready to win, possibly because of a blend of those reasons, or for neither of those...

Ben and Sam are joined by Jason Parks for a discussion of the R.A. Dickey deal and the risks and rewards of trading top prospects.

Report: R.A. Dickey ‘a Handful,’ ‘Far From Beloved’ As Mets Look to Move Him

The dominating storyline of R.A. Dickey has been that of a plucky knuckleballer who beats the odds. Dickey’s rise past childhood abuse through an uneven baseball career to winning last year’s National League Cy Young award has made him a folk hero in New York. But don’t think that means everyone loves Dickey. Ken Davidoff of the New York Post writes that, while Dickey is loved...

Mets Improve Significantly by Acquiring d’Arnaud, Buck in Dickey Blockbuster

The Man, The Myth, The Legend- Mets’ future franchise backstop Travis d’Arnaud. While it is sad knowing that RA Dickey is no longer a New York Met, I have to admit I am very excited about the players the Mets have acquired for him. Noah Syndergaard is quite a pitching prospect and Wulimer Becerra has potential, but in this post I will focus on the four catchers that were exchanged...

America’s Trade Deficit Decreases

Mets' Pitcher R.A. Dickey officially dealt to Toronto.

why trading Dickey was the right move for the Mets

Trading your ace right after he won 20 games and the Cy Young award is never a popular move. But for the Mets, this was a great trade. Below are 5 reasons why, as well as why this was good for the Jays and Dickey himself. 1. First off, the Mets are rebuilding. They are not contending in 2013, with Dickey or without him. With him, best case scenario they win 83 games. They are in...

Newest Met, Noah Syndergaard, Uses Gay Slur On Twitter

I’m sure this not exactly how one of the newest Mets wanted to begin his foray into the New York market. Noah Syndergaard, the pitching prospect included in the R.A. Dickey deal, was caught using an anti-gay slur on Twitter. The offending tweet was then deleted, but not before it made the rounds and infuriated many. Andy Martino of the Daily News caught it and reports: Righthanded...

WAR for Knuckleballers

As you probably know, there are multiple ways to calculate WAR, with our version (sometimes referred to as fWAR) and Baseball-Reference’s version (or rWAR/bWAR, depending on who is citing it) being the two most popular. And, as you probably also know, they can be quite different when it comes to evaluating pitchers. Two years ago, I wrote a couple of posts (Part One, Part Two...

Time is now for Jays in AL East

That's twice now. Twice teams have done the unthinkable, at least by recent baseball standards. Twice teams have said, "Enough with our precious prospects. We're going for it." First, it was the Kansas City Royals, trading one of the game's most promising young hitters, Wil Myers, and a highly regarded young pitcher, Jake Odorizzi, in a deal for Tampa Bay right...

Mike Pelfrey signs one-year $4M deal with Twins

Like most New York sports fans, I spent the majority of my Sunday afternoon discussing the seven-player trade that will send R.A. Dickey to the Toronto Blue Jays, as well as conversations about Big Blue’s no-show in Atlanta forcing a three-way tie atop the NFC East. In fact, I spent about 15 minutes with our friends over at ‘The Happy Recap Radio Show’ discussing both topics...

Noah Syndergaard Apologizes For Using Anti-Gay Slur

Updated at 7:00 PM As I expected, right-hander Noah Syndergaard apologized today for the anti-gay slur he made on Twitter. During a conference call with New York media, he said: “I had a little mishap on Twitter about a month ago, and it was just brought to the attention this morning,” he said. “I’d just like to apologize for anything that was said. A buddy and I were having...
