Yesterday manager Terry Collins put together lineups for an intrasquad game that featured some of the promising young prospects in the Mets farm system. It was interesting and exciting to see all of the young players in camp playing against one another as they look to showcase their talent before being sent back to minors camp.
Some of the notable players that played in the game were Wilmer Flores, Cesar Puello, Matt Den Dekker, Juan Lagares and Kirk Nieuwenhuis. The majority of the guys I just listed will not be making an appearance with the big club this season, but it is still fun and exciting to see them all on the same field.
GM Sandy Alderson and his entourage of high level executives including Paul Depodesta and J. P. Riccardi sat behind home plate and evaluated the players throughout the game.
According to Collins both Harvey and Familia will get to pitch a lot this spring as the Mets look to give them valuable experience to take back to the minors with them. As a guest on W...

Sunday Mets Notes: Wright Out Indefinitely, Hairston Sidelined With Oblique, Intrasquad Lineups
Updated Sunday AM
This morning, Sandy Alderson told reporters David Wright has continued discomfort in his left rib cage, and will not play again until he’s asymptomatic. According to Adam Rubin, the Mets are treating this very conservatively in part because of Scott Hairston straining an oblique muscle in Saturday’s intrasquad game. Wright was scratched from Saturday...
Friday at PSL: Mets prospects shine during intra-squad
This afternoon at Digital Domain Park in Port St. Lucie, the New York Mets played a nine inning intra-squad game which featured a Kirk Nieuwenhuis two-run homerun and 3 2/3 combined scoreless frames from Matt Harvey (1 2/3) and Jeurys Familia (2).
Harvey, according to Andy McCullough of the Star Ledger, struggled with the strike zone during his 1 2/3 innings of work. He allowed...
New York Mets: 3 Up and 3 Down
The Mets are coming off of a 77-85 record and 4th place finish in the NL East during manager Terry Collins’ first season with the team. After just an 11-16 start to the season, New York was actually three games over .500 as late as July 8th.
David Wright (middle) looks to bounce back from the worst season of his MLB career.
The Mets actually had a decent enough year at the dish...
Comparison to Edmonds is high praise
Kirk NieuwenhuisPhoto by Michael BaronAfter today's intra-squad game Terry Collins compared prospect Kirk Nieuwenhuis to Jim Edmonds. Collins was Edmonds manager from 1997-1999, two of which years Edmonds was a gold glove recipient. He was disappointing in 1999 only playing in 50 games due to injury, but prior to that he hit .300 with a .500 slugging for Collins...

2012 Fantasy Baseball: Jonathon Niese and the New York Mets starting rotation preview
Johan Santana (credits below) There is little reason for Mets fans to be excited about the 2012 season, and fantasy owners are in the same boat when it comes to filling your rotation with their starting pitching options. To almost throw salt in the wound, early indication is CITI Field will be much more hitter friendly than in the previous years. So not only do all five starters...
Ike Davis Likely Has Valley Fever
Marty Noble of MLB.com reports that it is likely Mets budding first baseman Ike Davis has likely contracted Valley Fever, although they have yet to get the results from the blood test.
Whether that statement will be applicable each day come April is an unknown that makes his manager and Davis himself squirm. Davis is not the picture of health. He has, in fact, contracted Valley or...
Mets Jambalinka: Ike Davis, Jon Rauch, Eric Langill
It is early in Spring Training and the Mets are already in mid-season form when it comes to injuries. While we all hope that none of these turn serious, we never thought we would lose our first baseman for the entire year due to a collision on an infield pop-up. With that unpleasantness behind us, here are some stories that caught my eye in the past week.
While the punsters dust...
New York Mets’ Ike Davis may have Valley Fever
The New York Mets are becoming that team that you hear something about odd about and just respond with, “of course.” Such is the case now that 1B Ike Davis has been diagnosed with what is being called a lung infection.
Doctor’s haven’t gone far enough at this point to call it Valley Fever, but there are signs that it might be a mild case of it. He is not contagious, but...
Two Words for Fred Wilpon….
For guys who are supposed to be media savvy and who are uber sensitive, you would think they know how to stay silent. Monday or Tuesday was media training day for the Mets but the Wilpons seem to be the ones who need the class.

Ruben Tejada Will Thank Terry Collins One Day
Ruben Tejada might not have the most impossible job in this city when replacing Jose Reyes at shortstop- that’s reserved for the next Yankees’ closer after Mariano Rivera- but he is coming into to a difficult situation. He’s replacing an All-Star, one that was consistently injured, but still one of the top-three in the league at the position. Reyes was also immensely popular...
Mets Outfielder Ike Davis Diagnosed With 'Valley Fever' Lung Infection
At this point, we should probably know better than to be surprised by anything the Mets do, but somehow, they keep pushing the envelope. Ike Davis is the latest strange story to emerge from Mets spring training after coming down with a case of what doctors believe is "Valley Fever." An X-ray during Davis' physical revealed what GM Sandy Alderson described as a "...
Valley Fever: Will Ike Davis Miss Another Season?
I knew when the Mets sent Ike Davis to New York to get checked out, that something was up. The Mets are never truthful with this stuff and I don’t know if it’s their fault or the crappy medical care they had.
Davis is being treated as if he has Valley Fever. Apparently it’s not a severe case like Conor Jackson had when he missed almost all of 2009 from it. Valley Fever in extreme...
