Eli's MLB Rumors:
According to ESPN 1050 in New York, an executive with knowledge of the Mets' plans says the Mets will aggressively pursue closer Francisco Rodriguez. While the Mets may not be willing to give Rodriguez the five year deal he is looking for, it is believed they would be willing to give him a four year deal worth 60 million dollars. This way, the Mets could pay him somewhere between 10-12 million in 2009 (mostly because of Billy Wagner), and then increase his salary over time to net him 17 or 18 million dollars by the time his contract is done.A Rodriguez is the top closer on the market and is expected to have a list of at least fifteen teams calling for his services.
