The Marlins (68-92) came from behind late in the game to beat the Mets (73-87) by the score of 3-2 tonight in Miami. What a sleeper this game was. Seriously, I caught myself nodding off at least twice.Jeurys Familia made his first major league start and his reputation for wildness was on full display for all to see in this game. The young right-hander surrendered just one hit in four scoreless innings, but he walked six batters.. That’s obscene… The six walks were the most walks allowed by any Mets starting pitcher in a game this season.I have deep concerns about Familia. Only 33 of his 75 pitches were strikes and I’m not going to blame this on jitters. Familia has been wild throughout his entire professional career. He had a 4.8 walk rate for Buffalo this season. That’s worse than Oliver Perez. As bad as Familia was, the bullpen was even worse. Manny Acosta, Jon Rauch and Ramon Ramirez each allowed a run with Rauch getting the blown save and Ramirez earning the loss. The bullpen has...

The End Of The 2012 Mets’ Season: An Odd Feeling
The pieces are all familiar. We’ve been here before. There are two games left to the year and the Mets are out of it. Again. We fans sit on the sidelines and watch other guys have fun for the next couple of weeks. We watch, intrigued and happy for the Orioles and A’s. We watch, bored by the Yankees and Braves. We watch, impressed by the Reds and Nationals. We watch, because...
Mets Card of the Week: 1975 Hank Webb box
1975 TOPPS HANK WEBB WAX BOXBack in the spring of 2011, I did a piece on Hank Webb. This past May, I wrote about a 1970 Topps box.Well, today is the Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup moment. The moment that I stumble into the path of a random stranger, we collide awkwardly, and then exclaim in sequence “You got Webb on my box!/No, you got box on my Webb!”This moment comes courtesy...
