According to ESPN's Buster Olney, the Mets sit pretty in the chase for a closer. The Mets will go in the free agent route to get one and Olney approximates that the Mets will offer K-Rod (3 years - 36 Million), Fuentes (3 years - 30 Million), and Kerry Wood (2 years - 16-18 Million).

According to what he has heard internally, who ever accepts their offer, is going to be their closer. Much has been said that the pecking order is the one listed above. They do not want to trade young prospects to get themselves a closer, so J.J. Putz is pretty much not a option.

The Mets, according to Olney have not focused on the starting pitcher market. They would like to re-sign Oliver Perez, who they believe is the best second tier pitcher on the market.
