Cubs Prospects on the Decline

Before this season, both dmick/Uncle Dave and I made our prospect lists. These aren't the only prospects in the Cubs system, but they are nearly all the ones worth talking about. I might have missed a prospect here or there, but it's a good jumping off point. The list of the first 21 is right here: Javier Baez 65 Jorge Soler 65 Dan Vogelbach 65 Albert Almora 60 Brett...

JOT: Cubs Minor League Recap 5-17-13

Tucson Padres 9 @ Iowa Cubs 8 As I was typing this, it was 9-6. The Cubs had to score 2 runs in the bottom of the ninth to make it interesting, but of course they failed to win it.  Logan Watkins went yard for the 3rd time this season. It was his only hit; he also walked once and struck out twice. He grounded out to end the game. Thanks Logan, I didn't want to stay up any longer...

Cubs rumors: Carlos Marmol 'not going nowhere'

Considering he's a pending free agent that has reportedly been asking to get out of town, there has been speculation that Carlos Marmol could part ways with the Chicago Cubs in the near future. However, Marmol assured reporters -- including Carrie Muskat of MLB.com -- that he's "not going nowhere." “I’m not going nowhere,” Marmol said. “I’m very happy...

JOT Minor League Recap 5-16-13

Tucson Padres 0 @ Iowa Cubs 1 Matt Garza’s final rehab start was a fantastic one. He threw 6 innings and allowed 4 hits and a run. He didn’t walk anybody and struckout 8. The question now is who is he going to replace in the Cubs rotation? Brooks Raley threw the final 3 innings and allowed 2 hits and a walk while striking out 3. The I-Cubs only had 5 hits and nobody had more...

Cubs’ Matt Garza says he is Ready: Saturday session may determine

The Chicago Cubs may soon have a very nice problem: six starting pitchers. Matt Garza has completed four rehab starts, and he feels that he can return to the Cubs’ rotation. MLB.com’s Carrie Muskat tweeted Garza’s confidence early on May 17. #Cubs Matt Garza says he's ready to go wp.me/p1rXwp-8WRH via @wordpressdotcom — Carrie Muskat (@CarrieMuskat) May...

Jeff Samardzija Pitches, Homers His Way to Win Over Rockies

Coming off of his first season as a full time starter, Chicago Cubs ace Jeff Samardzija was looked upon as the go-to man for the Cubs alongside Edwin Jackson. A lat muscle strain at the beginning of spring training pushed back Matt Garza’s 2013 debut into late-May (as projected), heightening expectations for Samardzija and Jackson to step up and lead the Chicago rotation towards...

Cubs 6, Rockies 3

Jeff Samardzija hit a two-run home run and pitched eight strong innings for his first win since opening day and the Chicago Cubs beat the Colorado Rockies 6-3 on Wednesday night. David DeJesus led off the first inning with a home run and Anthony Rizzo had two hits for the Cubs, who won back-to-back series for the first time this season. Cubs 6, Rockies 3 and Dexter Fowler's outs.

Jeff Samardzija had a pretty amazing night last night.Dexter Fowler not so much. Samardzija gave up 2 runs on 5 hits and 2 walks in 8 full innings. Probably the best part about that was the 8 innings.Because that was only 108 pitches. The other best part was the 2-run dinger he hit off Jon Garland. What a performance, and Dexter Fowler was there to watch it all. Cubs 6 Rockies 3.

Series Preview: New York Mets (15-23) at Chicago Cubs (17-23)

The Mets have lost seven of their last ten games, including a sweep by the Pirates and a near-sweep by the Cardinals. Luckily for the Mets, they have the Marlins in their division so it will be difficult to drop into last place. I was surprised to read that they've placed foruth in the division for four straight years – it seems like just yesterday they were blowing big leads...

More Wrigley Stuff for an Off Day

First off, our apologies for the blog host acting up, we are looking into upgrading service or potentially transferring service such that these periodic hiccups don’t happen anymore.  Thank you for your patience and your continued support. As we talked about briefly last night on our podcast, the Cubs and the city are moving forward with the renovation planning and the neighbors...

Talking Cubs/Mets on the Met Musings Podcast

I had an opportunity to join Gary McDonald on his Mets Musings podcast earlier today to talk a bit about the Cubs as we get ready to see Matt Harvey and the Mets this weekend at Wrigley Field.  My part starts at about the 20 minute mark, but before that Gary talks about Ike Davis' struggles and some of the other problems the Mets have been having lately, so maybe the Cubs have...

Ivy’s Round-Up: Rocking the Rockies

The Cubs were able to keep the momentum going after winning their last two games against the Nationals. With the win last night the Cubs took two of three from the Rockies for their first series win at Wrigley Field this season. They’ve gotten into a nice little rhythm, winning four of their last five games and everyone seems to be swinging the bat better, even Darwin Barney...
