Found March 06, 2012 on The Nats Blog:

mike-morse-gettyWashington Nationals OF Michael Morse is listed as day-to-day with a right lat strain.  This injury could be a major blow to the Nationals offense, as Morse is expected to be the team's clean up hitter this season.  Lat injuries don't tend to be short term issues in recent history, unfortunately.  Both Jon Lester of the Boston Red Sox and the Atlanta Braves star catcher Brian McCann spent time on the disabled list in 2011 due to lat injuries.

Without Morse, it is unclear who could fill in as the team's cleanup hitter as Spring Training progresses, but the Nationals could be in real trouble if Morse misses any regular season time.  Adam LaRoche could fill the role in a worst-case scenario, but his spring start was pushed back for the third time today to Thursday at the earliest.  His health remains in question.  Without those two power bats, there aren't any real solutions to hit clean up for the Nats, which would further hurt the Nationals already-concerning offense.

Here's hoping that this turns out to be a short term issue for the Nationals left fielder, but recent history isn't so kind to those odds.

Ryan Zimmerman Player Projection No. 33

Key Stats: A career .288/.355/.479 bat, Ryan Zimmerman has posted WAR's over 7 in two of the last 3 years. He has this odd little roller coaster career path starting in 2006 of good year, good year, hurt, good year, good year then hurt. Of course that is just observation and not scientific law, but if the cycle holds up, Zimms will have a fine year in 2012. Of course I will probably...

2012 Fantasy Baseball Rankings: Catchers

1. Carlos Santana, Indians- I like Santana over McCann for two reasons: DH and 1B eligibility. The ability for for Indians to keep Santana’s bat in the lineup nearly every day without him catching every day is a huge bonus. 2. Brian McCann, Braves- Arguably the most consistent catcher of the past 3-4 years.  3. Mike Napoli, Rangers- Big Mike Nap exploded in Texas last year as...
