As you might expect from a guy who has known only one hitting coach for his entire major league career, Rangers 3B Michael Young isn't exactly thrilled that Rudy Jaramillo will not be with the Rangers in 2010.
"I'm disappointed to say the least," Young said, a day after his wife Cristina gave birth to the couple's second son. "As an offense, we need to get better because we are worse today than we were a week ago. It's tough for me personally because he's seen basically every at bat of my career."
Young does have some authority to speak on hitting. His credentials: He has hit .300 or better in six of the last seven seasons, including an AL-best .331 in 2005. Over the last seven seasons, his .312 batting average ranks 11th in baseball.
Young agreed that the club needed to do a better job at situational hitting, but that was never an area Jaramillo neglected.
