As the Boston Red Sox continue to play outstanding baseball through the first two months, they will be welcoming back  their starting third baseman Will Middlebrooks later this week as he makes his way back from a lower back injury suffered on May 24. On Tuesday, Middlebrooks started a four game rehab stint for Triple-A Pawtucket and went 1 for 2 with a single and a walk in five innings of play against the Charlotte Knights. “I felt great and I really expected to come here and feel some tightness when I got done and didn’t feel any,” he said. “I am ready to push it a little bit further and start ramping it up,” Middlebrooks said that he even couldn’t sleep well at all during the first few nights after his back injury occurred. It is expected that Middlebrooks plays seven innings for the Pawsox on Wednesday night and nine on Thursday and Friday before being eligible to come off the disabled list on Saturday. “It’s the plan [that I go back into the starting lineup] and that’s what I a...

Your browser does not support iframes. The Texas Rangers were getting beat by the Boston Red Sox so badly on Tuesday night, manager Ron Washington decided to spare his pitchers and let a position player hurl an inning during their 17-5 loss. That player was outfielder David Murphy, who turned out to have more success [...]

Jarrod Saltalamacchia Praises John Lackey’s Performance in Hard-Luck Loss (Video)

John Lackey may not have gotten the win Wednesday night, but the right-hander impressed his teammates and coaches with yet another quality start. In six innings of work, Lackey allowed just one run — a home run by former teammate Adrian Beltre — on five hits and zero walks. Starts like this have been the norm for the veteran for nearly a month, as he’s allowed just four total...

Papi Walk-Off HR Powers Sox Over Texas, 6-3

Photo by Jim Rogash/Getty ImagesIt was shaping to be a SquanderPalooza of epic proportions. Boston had left 10 men on base during multiple opportunities to plate a tying run. Then, in the seventh, the Carmine Hose pushed across a run with some hustle by Mike Napoli and a great take-out slide by David Ortiz. It was Ortiz who untied things for good in the ninth—clouting a three...

Somebody must have messed up an order. The fireworks arrived in Boston a month early. The Red Sox put on quite the show at Fenway Park on Tuesday, beating the one team that has dominated them this season by double-digits. Red Sox announcer: "We gotta recap this sh*t?"

The Red Sox destroyed the Rangers 17-5 last night in a game that devolved to the point where Rangers OF David Murphy took the mound and began striking out Red Sox.  After the game mercifully concluded after 3 hours and 10 minutes, Sox analyst Dennis Eckersley got caught with a hot mic going to break asking "we gotta recap this sh*t?!" Such is the nature of a lenghty...

Four Bases: Rangers 3, Red Sox 2

After offense was easy to find last night, it disappeared again tonight. The Rangers bullpen was able to mostly shut down the Red Sox after Alexi Ogando went 5 2/3 innings, and all the Red Sox bullpen could do was try to keep Boston in the game. Here are the four bases: First Base: Walks hurt more than a sunburn. Sunburns sometimes are not to bad, and sometimes walks are not either...
