DETROIT -- The Tigers' attempt at sweeping the Toronto Blue Jays Thursday got a little more difficult in the second inning. Third baseman Miguel Cabrera had to leave the game with two outs in the top of the second. He appeared to injure his right ankle while running out a fly ball in the first inning. Cabrera has been nagged by a problem with his left ankle for the past few weeks. Cabrera came into the game batting .326 with 31 home runs and 105 RBIs but is currently in an 0-for-9 skid at the plate. Ramon Santiago replaced Cabrera at third base.

Miguel Cabrera leaves game, listed as day-to-day

For someone who has never made a trip to the disabled list, now would not be the time. The Tigers are in the thick of a Central Division Playoff race and cannot afford to have their best hitter, and perennial MVP candidate out for any length of time. Detroit Tigers third baseman Miguel Cabrera needed to leave the game in the second inning against the Toronto Blue Jays Thursday afternoon...

Miguel Cabrera a lock for AL MVP? 21 Year Old Phenom May Say Otherwise

The popular choice around Detroit for this season’s AL MVP for obvious reasons is Miguel Cabrera. Cabrera is quite possibly the most feared hitter in all of baseball. He has had 100 RBI’s in every season since 2005, pounding out 30 homers during most of those seasons as well. So far this year, he has [...]

Cabrera returns to Tigers' lineup

DETROIT -- Miguel Cabrera rarely leaves a game early, so it was natural for people to worry when he came out of Thursday's game in the second inning with a sore right ankle. The good news is, Cabrera is in Friday's lineup. The only bad thing is, he's the designated hitter, not the third baseman. "The trainer suggested I DH him tonight, so I DH him," manager...

Detroit slugger Cabrera leaves game in 2nd inning

Miguel Cabrera has left Detroit's game Thursday against Toronto in the second inning with right ankle soreness. The slugging third baseman appeared to grimace as he rounded first after flying out to right field in the first, but he went out to his position to start the second. After the second out of the inning - a routine popup to first baseman Prince Fielder - Tigers manager...

Tigers' Cabrera leaves game with ankle injury

Detroit Tigers star Miguel Cabrera left Thursday's game with an ankle injury. The severity of the injury is unclear as of Thursday afternoon, and Cabrera is listed as day-to-day. But if Cabrera has to miss games, it will be a blow to the Tigers, who play the Angels in an important series this weekend. Cabrera has had problems with his ankle for much of August, although...

Tigers' Cabrera in lineup, Angels' Pujols out

Detroit Tigers slugger Miguel Cabrera is back in the lineup with a heavily taped right ankle. Cabrera was set to be the designated hitter Friday night against the Los Angeles Angels. Cabrera says he hopes to be healthy enough to play third base in the second game of the series on Saturday night. He left Thursday's game against Toronto during the second inning with soreness...

Cabrera hits, others don't

DETROIT -- It was a little easier to overlook the lack of offense when the Tigers were sweeping the Toronto Blue Jays out of town. But the fact is, the Tigers haven't been scoring a whole lot lately. Including Friday night's 2-1 loss to Zack Greinke and the Los Angeles Angels, the Tigers have scored just 44 runs in their last 12 games, which equates to about 3.67 runs...

Trout fails to impress, Cabrera much better as Angels top Tigers 2-1

In a game showcasing the talents of two of the top candidates for the American League Most Valuable Player award, LA’s Mike Trout (0-5, 1 SO) remained hitless and left 3 runners on base. Detroit’s Miguel Cabrera (2-4, 1 HR), on the other hand, slugged a solo homerun in front of a soldout crowd at Comerica park. Trout went 0-5 with a strikeout to see his average drop to .341 as...

Verlander’s gem carries Cabrera-less Tigers to sweep of Jays, gain 1/2 a game on White Sox

The Detroit Tigers (67-57), without slugger and MVP candidate Miguel Cabrera, who exited the game early due to a sore ankle, swept the Toronto Blue Jays (56-68) in the 3-game home series from Comerica Park. The Tigers came out on top 3-2 in extra innings, gaining a half game on the idle White Sox. The Tigers now trail Chicago by 1.5 games in the AL Central. Chicago, fresh off a home...

Angels-Tigers Preview

Both Detroit and Los Angeles received a bit of a scare in the last few days as Miguel Cabrera and Albert Pujols were forced out of games with injuries. While the Tigers are hopeful Cabrera will be back for Friday night's series opener, the visiting Angels don't seem as optimistic about Pujols' return. Cabrera left Thursday's 3-2, 11-inning win over Toronto in the...
