The Detroit Tigers dropped the rubber game of their three-game set with the Chicago White Sox on Thursday, but Miguel Cabrera again provided a bright spot. Cabrera launched a solo shot off White Sox starter Chris Sale in the fifth inning — the Tigers led 3-1 after that opposite-field shot, only to fall, 6-3.
Cabrera’s homer pushed him up to 94 RBIs for the year, with 91 games in the books. He stayed on pace for 167 RBI with that bomb. And once again, here’s where that number would rank on the all-time list:
1. Hack Wilson: 191 RBI
2. Lou Gehrig: 184
3. Hank Greenberg: 183
t4. Jimmie Foxx, Lou Gehrig: 175
6. Lou Gehrig: 174
7. Babe Ruth: 171
t8. Hank Greenberg, Chuck Klein: 170
10. Jimmie Foxx: 169
11. Miguel Cabrera: 167

Detroit Tigers right fielder Torii Hunter was able to avoid being hit by a home run ball thrown back onto the field, by one of his own fans, during Thursday's game at Comerica Park.
After Chicago White Sox batter Alejandro de Aza hit a home run into the right field stands in the top of the eighth, the fan decided on making the...
A big question for an All-Star manager going into the midsummer classic is who will be the starting pitcher? I will tell you why Jim Leyland won’t have to look that far to find his man. We are only a few days away from the MLB’s 84th annual All-Star game which will be held in Citi Field, New York City, New York, which is the home of the New York Mets. One of the biggest question...
DETROIT Miguel Cabrera, an accomplished amateur baseball player in Venezuela, taught his son how to play and love the game.
He stood in the dugout prior to Saturday nights game, watching Jose Miguel Cabrera, who goes by his middle name, take batting practice before the Detroit Tigers played the Texas Rangers. The proud father talked about the magnificent season his son is having...
DETROIT Jim Leyland doesnt get a whole lot of love from Detroit Tigers fans.
Hes maligned in the social media and on radio talk shows for continuing to use Phil Coke with the game still in doubt; having too many cronies on his coaching staff; playing Andy Dirks, Don Kelly, Ramon Santiago and Alex Avila too much; not playing Matt Tuiasosopo enough; letting Jose Valverde burn down...
The Tampa Bay Rays’ aquarium-style “touch tank” in center field is one of the few unique aspects of much-maligned Tropicana Field. But since Detroit’s Miguel Cabrera crushed a home run into the open tank two weeks ago, the exhibit — which contains live cownose rays — has come under scrutiny.
A representative of PETA sent a strongly worded letter to Rays senior vice president...
YouTube The Tigers and White Sox got into a little dance party Thursday afternoon Tigers reliever Luke Putkonen threw a pitch behind White Sox shortstop Alexei Ramirez. Putkonen’s pitch was in retaliation to the Tigers believing that White Sox starter Chris Sale threw up and in to Prince Fielder following a Miguel Cabrera home run earlier in the game. All you need to about the...
Most professional athletes hate doing post game interviews, it’s just the way it is. But every so often you find an athlete that likes to have fun with the reporters, and Torii Hunter, the Detroit Tigers outfielder, is one of those athletes.
After Miguel Cabrera hit a home run off of White Sox ace Chris Sale in yesterday’s game, Sale threw up and in on the Tigers next hitter...

Jim Leyland was ejected after going pretty nuts on the umpires during a bench-clearing brawl between the Detroit Tigers and Chicago White Sox on Thursday at Comerica Park. The issues between the teams began in the bottom of the fifth when Sox pitcher Chris Sale threw at Prince Fielder [...]
I’ve been saying for the past three years that Justin Verlander is over-rated and that he isn’t even the best pitcher on his own staff—let alone the best pitcher in baseball like his most avid cheerleaders in the media have been contending.
If you’ll notice he always seems to have one or two “meltdown” innings (like the Rangers Derek Holland)—especially against tougher...
DETROIT -- Tigers starter Rick Porcello, who won his sixth game Wednesday night, dropped the appeal of his six-game suspension Thursday, as expected.
Major League Baseball originally suspended Porcello six games for hitting Tampa Bay's Ben Zobrist with a pitch in the first inning June 30.
Porcello, who said he thought the suspension might have...
Detroit reliever Luke Putkonen threw a pitch behind Chicago's Alexei Ramirez, and both benches and bullpens emptied in the top of the sixth inning of Thursday's game between the Tigers and White Sox.
An inning after Chris Sale threw high and inside to Tigers star Prince Fielder, the trouble occurred. Ramirez started toward the mound after nearly being hit, pointing at Putkonen...
It’s entirely possible that Luke Putkonen just lost grip of his pitch, leading it to sail behind Alexei Ramirez at the plate, but probably not.
Whatever the motive may be, though, Ramirez was none too pleased with the pitch delivered during the sixth inning of the Tigers-White Sox game at Comerica Park on Thursday afternoon. The White Sox shortstop made a few steps toward Putkonen...
The L.A. Dodgers hit another multi-year high on Tuesday night. In other news, the Tigers earned their second-best rating of the season, and ESPN’s “Sunday Night Baseball” could not match last year’s Yankees/Red Sox affair. [...]
Chicago closer Kevin Gregg may be on the Detroit Tigers’ radar as the July 31 trade deadline approaches. But what about starter Matt Garza, who, like Gregg, will be a free agent after this season?
ESPN’s Jim Bowden, formerly the GM for the Reds and Nationals, suggests a package deal that sends Garza and Gregg to the Tigers for Avisail Garcia, Rick Porcello and 2012 second-round...
