Detroit Tigers slugger Miguel Cabrera beat out Los Angeles Angeles center fielder Mike Trout to win the American League's Most Valuable Player after becoming the first player in 45 years to win baseball's Triple Crown. Cabrera received 22 of 28 first-place votes and 362 points from the AL Baseball Writer's Assocaition of America.  Trout received six first-place votes and 281 points.  He was voted the AL Rookie of the Year early in the week. Cabrera became the first Triple Crown winner since Boston's Carl Yastrzemski in 1967 after he hit . 330 with 44 homers and 139 RBIs. Cabrera also becomes the second straight Detroit player to win the AL MVP, following Justin Verlander in 2011.   Texas Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre finished third with 210 points followed by New York Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano and Rangers outfielder Josh Hamilton fifth.
