All of the Reds minor league organizations are through with baseball for this season except for Bakersfield (starting the playoffs tonight) so it's time to start recapping each team's season. Statistical leaders were chosen among those who played significant time. It's not limited to a certain number of ABs or IPs, really. I just picked who I thought played enough to warrant being mentioned as a stats leader. Melky Cabrera will not be included.
We continue with Rookie-level Billings.
The Mustangs finished 42-34 overall, 1st place in the Pioneer League North standings and 1.0 game ahead of the Missoula Osprey. In the first half they finished 21-17, 2nd place in the division and 3.0 games behind the Great Falls Voyagers. For the second half, they went an identical 21-17, which was also good for 2nd place, and 2.0 games behind the Osprey, who got the last laugh.
They finished in first place overall and aren't going to the playoffs? Huh...

Chris Jaffe has great piece today in The Hardball Times about a trade that outshines even The Trade for suckiness.
Not only did it rob the Reds of a player they would have been better off to have around, but it gave the opponent (the Cardinals) a pivotal piece in their success at the time (which is something you’d probably wouldn’t say about The Trade).
The year was 1957, and...
The Reds had the day off yesterday to lick their wounds after that unfortunate series against the Phillies. It’s over and there’s nothing we can do about it now. Moving on.
Today the Astros come to town. Homer Bailey (RHP, 10-9, 4.09 ERA) hasn’t gotten a win in a while, including in his last appearance against the Astros’ 10-game winner last Saturday....
CINCINNATI Drew Stubbs and his .220 batting average sat in the dugout during a game for the third game Friday night, but that doesn't mean he is doing nothing but ravaging pumpkin seeds.
His real work is before games, private lessons and sessions with hitting coach Brook Jacoby and manager Dusty Baker.
"As much as you hate to do it, like a parent, sometimes you have to...
CINCINNATI -- What Dusty Baker feared most materialized this weekend -- premature talk of postseason play might distract the job at hand, no matter how menial it seemed.
And it couldn't have seemed more menial with the Houston Astros coming to town, towing 95 losses with them. They hadn't won a series on the road in 2 years -- not since early June of 2010 when they took...
The Joe Morgan bobblehead – the sixth and final in the Reds Hall of Fame & Museum’s 2012 Big Red Machine bobblehead series – is currently available, and can be yours with full-price paid admission to the Reds Hall of Fame & Museum on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays in September, while supplies last. The bobblehead (pictured) bobbles in not one but TWO places! Aside...
No Billy Hamilton? No problem. Although many Reds faithful were clamoring for the speedster to be called up this month, there's another prospect who may be capable of making a greater impact down the stretch. He goes by the name of Tony Cingrani and the left-hander was recently dubbed as one of the key September call-ups for any team by ESPN's Keith Law.
CINCINNATI (AP) -- Reds third baseman Scott Rolen has a sore lower back that will sideline him for at least a few days.
Manager Dusty Baker said Rolen had an MRI exam that found a couple of inflamed areas in the back. He was put on medication. The Reds are hoping the problem subsides by the end of the weekend.
Rolen last played on Tuesday. He's batting .244 with six homers...

Reds skipper Dusty Baker talks about the team's 5-1 victory over the Astros on Saturday. His club now has a 9.5 game division lead, which is the largest cushion for any first place team in baseball at the moment. Cincinnati's magic number currently sits at 14.
Jay Bruce could be in good shape to match the Cincinnati Reds' club record for consecutive games with a homer based on his history against Lucas Harrell.
Bruce has gone deep in four straight games and has fared well in his career against the Houston Astros starter, who will take the ball for Friday night's matchup.
The Reds' franchise record for homers in consecutive...
Bronson Arroyo extended his personal winning streak to five games, Jay Bruce and Brandon Phillips hit solo home runs and the first-place Cincinnati Reds bounced back from a frustrating loss with a 5-1 win over the last-place Houston Astros on Saturday night.
Phillips and Joey Votto both had two hits to help Arroyo improve to 8-1 over his last nine starts and 9-2 since July 6.

CINCINNATI (AP) -- The Cincinnati Reds played their last game against the Houston Astros as NL opponents but they will not forget Matt Dominguez anytime soon.
Dominguez hit a three-run homer, Tyler Greene added a solo shot and the Astros slowed Cincinnati's run to the NL Central title with a 5-1 win over the Reds on Sunday.

The third-place Pittsburgh Pirates aren't likely to catch the NL Central-leading Cincinnati Reds, and could soon find themselves out of playoff contention entirely.
Facing Mat Latos isn't likely to help their cause.
Losers in seven of their last nine, the Pirates could be hard-pressed to snap their longest road losing streak in two years in Monday night's series opener...
