BEST OF MAXIM
"I don't think it's a terrible deal for the Reds. Phillips is a good player who's durable and a fan favorite with a big personality. It does create an impetus to win now, before the Votto and Phillips deals potentially become a financial albatross. Hey, if they win now or next year, they can worry about 2016 in 2016." -David Schoenfield of ESPN.com's...
Janish is on fire to start 2012.
Look who's making noise for the Louisville Bats. After being one of the last players to be left off the Reds' 25-man roster, Paul Janish is doing his best to get back to Cincinnati. After the first four games, Janish has been named the Hitter of the Week by the International League, according to press release from minor league baseball...
CINCINNATI -- Brandon Phillips is a man never at a loss for words -- ask him for a drink of water and he gives you Niagara Falls. Brandon Phillips is a man who displays nothing but positive emotions with a smile as broad as the Caribbean Sea.
Speechless? Tears? Doesn't happen in a decade of leap years when Brandon's in the house.
That moment arrived Tuesday when Brandon...
The Reds, locking up another of their core players, have reached agreement on a six-year, $72.5 million contract with second baseman Brandon Phillips, according to a major-league source.
The deal will replace Phillips' current one-year, $12.5 million contract, and extend from 2012 to '17, the source said.
The sixth guaranteed year was important to Phillips, who turns 31...
The Reds' minor leaguers didn't fare well last night.

When experts and fans discuss the chances of the Reds reclaiming the NL Central crown this season, names like Votto, Phillips, Cueto and
Latos are often tossed around.
The man who just might hold the key to the Reds’ fate this
season, though, is a rookie.
Rookie shortstop Zack Cozart has done nothing but impress
Brandon Phillips will be a Cincinnati Red for life.
No, Cincinnati’s ownership group has not lost their minds. They’re simply doing what championship caliber organizations do day in and day out. And we applaud them for taking one of the most important steps there is to keeping the band together for a good long while.
I often sat back and thought about what I was going to write...
It has been a good week to be a second baseman. On the heels of Ian Kinsler‘s big extension with the Rangers, Brandon Phillips received a roughly similar six-year, $72.5 million deal from the Cincinnati Reds. Unlike Kinsler’s five-year contract, which begins after this season, Phillips’ new contract begins this year. Does this make sense for the team given the Reds current...
I didn’t get to see the first business day special of the year, because I was doing business. The Reds avoided getting swept by their division rivals after getting in a 3-0 hole thanks to a Jon Jay home run off Johnny Cueto.
Cueto didn’t have his best stuff it seemed, but he kept the Reds in the game over the course of five toughly contested innings...
CINCINNATI (AP) -- Joey Votto tied a career best with four hits and scored the go-ahead run on pinch-hitter Chris Heisey's ninth-inning single, capping a comeback from a three-run deficit and leading the Cincinnati Reds over the St. Louis Cardinals 4-3 Wednesday.
Down 3-0 in the third against Jaime Garcia, the Reds tied the score in the fifth.
Votto doubled off Marc Rzepczynski...
CINCINNATI (AP) -- Carlos Beltran and David Freese homered again on Tuesday night, and Kyle Lohse provided another stingy performance, leading the St. Louis Cardinals to a 3-1 victory over the Cincinnati Reds.
The defending World Series champions are 5-1 for the first time since 2008.
Beltran, counted on to help make up for the loss of Albert Pujols, hit his third homer off Mike...
CINCINNATI (AP) -- Matt Holliday, David Freese and Yadier Molina homered during the St. Louis Cardinals' big first inning, and Jake Westbrook found his control after a rough start, beating the Cincinnati Reds 7-1 on Monday night.
The defending World Series champions improved to 4-1 with an offense that hasn't missed Albert Pujols so far.
Only 20 pitches into the game, Reds...
