7/16 Game Review Sorry about the website issues yesterday. I still don’t know what the real problem was, but the host is full of crap if they expect me to believe the story that they gave me. The whole ordeal and trying to get it figured out by calling and emailing them for about 6 hours kind of threw a wrench into what I had planned, so everything is going to be pushed back a day or so. Louisville lost 8-2. Box Score Denis Phipps went 2-4 with a run. Didi Gregorius went 1-4 with a HR (2) and 2 RBI. Carlos Fisher threw 2 shutout innings of relief with a walk and 2 strikeouts. Game notes The Bats only mustered 4 hits in the game. Pensacola lost 2-1. Box Score Beau Mills went 2-4 with a solo HR (7). Tucker Barnhart went 1-3. JC Sulbaran allowed a run in 4.2 innings with 4 walks and 4 strikeouts. Brian Pearl threw 1.2 perfect innings with 3 strikeouts. Game notes Beau Mills hit a long home run off of the scoreboard for the Blue Wahoos only run of the game. Bakersfield won 8-1. Bo...

Reds can overcome temporary loss of Votto

CINCINNATI There are no placards hanging in the Cincinnati Reds clubhouse that say, "Keep a stiff upper lip," but there are, indeed, more stiff upper lips these days than on the Queen's Guard at Buckingham Palace. It is all due to the loss of All-Star first baseman Joey Votto for three weeks after he underwent arthroscopic knee surgery Tuesday. The team, of course...

Daily Brief: Cubs out of last place

Last Game The Reds beat the Cardinals last night to sweep the 3-game series in Cincinnati: Reds 4, Cardinals 2. It’s the Reds’ sixth win in a row, and that’s what it took to wrest first place in the NLC back from the Pirates. The Reds are now in sole possession of first place in the division by 1.0 games. Next Game Tonight, the Reds host the Diamondbacks at 7:10 p.m. at Great...

Game 88: Reds 4, Cardinals 2

The brooms were out as the Reds completed the sweep of the Cardinals last night on ESPN Sunday Night Baseball (Presented by Taco Bell). Johnny Cueto would have taken the mound, but was suffering from a blister. How he got a blister over the All-Star Break, I don’t know, but it wasn’t too big a deal since everyone else was rested. Homer Bailey took his place and totally rocked...

Daily Brief: Votto out 3-4 weeks

Last Game The Diamondbacks weren’t really bad enough to be swept by the Cubs last weekend, so maybe it’s no surprise that they busted out against the Reds last night. They touched Bronson Arroyo for 4 runs in the first inning, and that’s all they needed. With the Diamondbacks’ All-Star Wade Miley on the mound, the Reds’ All-Star Joey Votto out of the line-up, and an ejection...

Reds' Votto eyes return in 10 days

Reds first baseman Joey Votto returned to Cincinnati to have cartilage removed from his surgically repaired left knee. Manager Dusty Baker said Saturday that Votto felt soreness in his knee after participating in a sliding drill. Votto underwent a 6-minute procedure Friday night. Cincinnati plays the third of a four-game stand against the Chicago Cubs on Saturday. If rehab goes...

Rolen's hit sends Reds to 4-2 win over Cards

CINCINNATI (AP) -- Scott Rolen hit a tiebreaking two-run single in the eighth inning Sunday night, sending the Cincinnati Reds to a 4-2 victory and three-game sweep of the St. Louis Cardinals. The Reds' sixth straight win matched their best surge of the season, moved them a season-high 12 games over .500, and jumped them a game ahead of Pittsburgh for the NL Central lead. St...

Notable quotes from the weekend

The Reds put the finishing touches on a three-game sweep over the Cardinals on Sunday night. Here's some of the more notable quotes from the weekend series. Friday (5-3 Win) + "It was like Opening Day. It probably should be like that the rest of the year. People are excited. I hope they stay that way until the end." -Dusty Baker on the soldout crowd + "...

Bullpen fails Cards over weekend

The Cardinals' three-game sweep by the Reds at Cincinnati had some familiar themes. A former Cardinal beat them. After left fielder Ryan Ludwick hit a 10th-inning homer to win Saturday's game for the Reds, 3-2, third baseman Scott Rolen delivered a two-run, two-out bases-loaded single to win Sunday night for Cincinnati, 4-2. The bullpen failed. In each of the three losses...

Reds win without Votto

Last Game A strong outing from Johnny Cueto and a 3-run home run from Ryan Ludwick were too much for the Arizona Diamondbacks. Reds win 0-4. Next Game The third of the four-game series between the Reds and the Diamondbacks is tonight at 7:10 p.m. Mat Latos (7-2, 4.10 ERA) takes the hill against Ian Kennedy (6-8, 4.55 ERA). Both pitchers have the potential for greatness but have...

Reds 4, Diamondbacks 0

Right-hander Johnny Cueto showed no significant problem from his finger blister during six shutout innings Tuesday night, and Ryan Ludwick hit a three-run homer that sent the Cincinnati Reds to their first victory without Joey Votto, 4-0 over the Arizona Diamondbacks. Votto had surgery earlier in the day to repair torn cartilage in his left knee, sidelining the former National League...

Kennedy looks to continue mastery of Reds

By JEFF MEZYDLO STATS Senior Writer If the Cincinnati Reds continue to pitch well, they should have a good chance to succeed over the next few weeks even without injured star Joey Votto. After shutting out Arizona to even their four-game set, the Reds hope Mat Latos can continue his undefeated run Wednesday night against the visiting Diamondbacks. Johnny Cueto and four relievers...

Diamondbacks snap Reds' win streak

One bit of news took the Cincinnati Reds from their season high point to a new low - they have to try to hold onto first place without Joey Votto.

Redlegs Sweep Cardinals with 4-2 Win

The Reds (50-38) completed their first series of the second half of the season by sweeping the division rival Cardinals (46-43) with a 4-2 win on ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball. The Pirates suffered a 4 to 1 loss against the Brewers in Milwaukee today, allowing the Reds to grasp sole possession of first place in the National League Central.
