West Virginia was off yesterday. Indianapolis has an early afternoon game with Jeff Locke scheduled to pitch. He has the third best ERA in the International League. He is also fourth in the league in strikeouts and tenth, with his 1.22 WHIP. The season for the GCL Pirates, as well both DSL affiliates, ends on August 25th, with each team having 16 games remaining in their schedule. A full recap of yesterday’s games can be found here.

Locke has a 1.84 ERA since the All-Star break

Triple-A: Indianapolis (71-47) vs Charlotte (67-51) 1:05pm
Probable starter: Jeff Locke (9-5 2.66)

Jeff Locke will make his 22nd start of the season tonight. He has pitched a total of 125 innings, giving up 115 hits, nine homers, 38 walks and he has 113 strikeouts, with a 1.01 GO/AO ratio. In his last start, Jeff went 7.1 innings without allowing a run. He gave up three hits, two walks and he recorded ten strikeouts. In his previous start six days earlier, Locke threw seven shutout innings. He is 7-3 2.43 in 11 home starts this season.

Double-A: Altoona (54-61) vs Bowie (60-55) 7:00pm
Probable starter: TBD

Yesterday’s Result: Bowie 9 Altoona 8 in 10 innings

No starter has been named yet for Altoona. This was originally scheduled to be Kyle McPherson’s day in the rotation, but he has been called up to Indianapolis. Altoona is on a season high eight game losing streak that has pushed them into fifth place in their division.

High-A: Bradenton (51-63 overall 22-22 2nd half) @ Charlotte (46-65 overall 17-27 2nd half) 6:30pm
Probable starter: Kenn Kasparek (0-4 5.30)

Yesterday’s Result: Charlotte 8 Bradenton 1

Kenn Kasparek will make his second start of the season tonight. His first start was five days ago, when he allowed five runs on six hits and four walks in four innings. He has also pitched 16 times in relief, throwing 31.2 innings in that role, giving up 33 hits, three homers and 11 walks with 18 strikeouts. Kenn has a 1.11 GO/AO ratio on the year and a .293 BAA.

Low-A: West Virginia (48-67 overall 25-20 2nd half) @ Lexington (64-50 overall 25-20 2nd half) 7:05pm
Probable starter: Zack Von Rosenberg (3-4 4.39)

Yesterday’s Result: West Virginia  was off

Zack Von Rosenberg will make his 12th start of the season. He has pitched a total of 53.1 innings, allowing 58 hits, seven homers, 16 walks and he has 39 strikeouts. In his last start, Zack gave up seven runs on seven hits in just 2.2 innings. Prior to that game, he had allowed just seven runs over his six previous starts combined. Zack faced Lexington on 6/24, allowing seven runs on eight hits over five innings, including three home runs. On the road this year he is 2-3 3.26 in six starts.

Probable Starter: Jason Creasy (0-2 4.31)

Yesterday’s Result:  State College 4 Batavia 2 in 10 innings

Jason Creasy will make his tenth start of the year tonight. He has pitched a total of 39.2 innings, allowing 43 hits, three homers, 11 walks and he has 25 strikeouts. In his last start, he went 4.2 innings, allowing one run on four hits and three walks. It was the third time this year he has allowed just one run in a game, his season low. Jason faced Batavia on 7/3, giving up two runs in five innings, while striking out a career high of six batters.
