Braves-relief-pitcher
The Atlanta Braves had a 6+ run inning for the 3rd straight night against the Rockies on Wednesday.  The hot offense led the Braves to a 9-0 win, and gives them a chance to sweep the 4-game series tomorrow night.  The win for the Braves was their 6th straight. Enough cannot be said about Braves starter, Mike Minor.  Over the course of 2013, Minor has become the unofficial ace of the Braves staff.  He lived up to that title on Wednesday night against the Rockies.  Minor only gave up 2 hits in his 7 innings pitched.  The Rockies could not score on those 2 hits as Minor improved to 11-5 for the season. Luis Ayala came into the game in relief of Minor.  Ayala pitched 2 scoreless innings to finish off the Rockies. Once again on Wednesday, there was no shortage of offense for the Braves.  Freddie Freeman got the Braves going in the game’s very first inning.  His single to center scored Jason Heyward and put the Braves up, 1-0. Freeman would come through again in the 3rd inning.  This sing...

Colorado Rockies attendance affected by the humidor?

A recent post on the Denver Post’s “On The Rox” blog addressed a question asked during The Press Box, a Rockies radio program. Host Peter Burns bounced the question of unplugging the humidor off his guests. Burns suggested that a return of “high scores and home run bombs” would drive more fans to Rockies games. For those who aren’t familiar with the humidor, it is...

Braves place OF Reed Johnson on disabled list

The Atlanta Braves have placed reserve outfielder Reed Johnson on the 15-day disabled list with left heel tendinitis. Johnson, who leads major league pinch hitters with a .355 batting average and a .444 on-base percentage, is the third Atlanta outfielder currently on the DL. Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said Tuesday that center fielder B.J. Upton, sidelined by a right hip strain...

Three Cuts: Teheran-led Braves roll Rox for 7th straight win

ATLANTA Here are three things we learned from the Braves' 11-2 rout of the Rockies clinching Atlanta's seventh consecutive victory and a four-game sweep of Colorado. 1. Rookie pitcher Julio Teheran has come full circle as a burgeoning ace On April 23, the Rockies (51-59) and Braves set a major league record for coldest game-time temperature (23 degrees) the opener for...

Braves Haven’t Peaked Yet

The Atlanta Braves have opened up a substantial lead in the National League East, yet there is the feeling that the Braves are not a formidable team.  A big reason for that is the NL East itself.  The Braves are the only team in the division with a record above .500. The Braves also have only the 3rd best record in the National League and the Dodgers are the hottest team in baseball...

Downward spiral continues as Colorado Rockies dismantled by Atlanta Braves--again

Dan O'Dowd is out of ideas for the Rockies. What is left to be said? The only question that remains to be asked is, do the Colorado Rockies actually have to play out the final two months of their season? The unfortunate answer to that is "yes."Sorry to be so negative about a team that is just eight games back of first place in the National League West. Maybe there are...

Last night in ‘Fan Trying to Wrangle Foul Ball Derpness’: This Braves fan (video)

A fan seated behind home plate at Turner Field had a helluva time attempting — and failing — to secure a foul ball that eventually ended up in his vicinity during Wednesday night’s game between the Atlanta Braves and Colorado Rockies. A towering foul ball off the bat of Braves catcher Brian McCann’s bat in [...]The post Last night in ‘Fan Trying to Wrangle Foul Ball Derpness’...

Braves offense keeps rolling over Rockies as win streak reaches 6

The Rockies picked the wrong time to face the resurgent Braves who suddenly are playing as if they aim to clinch a division title by early September. Freddie Freeman had four hits Brian McCann hit a three-run homer for the second consecutive night and Mike Minor pitched seven near-perfect innings Wednesday night in a 9-0 rout against Colorado that pushed the Braves’ winning streak...

Photo: Duke’s David Cutcliffe Attends Rockies-Braves Game, Meets Todd Helton, Fredi Gonzalez

There’s nothing better in the summer than a nice day at the ballpark. Yesterday, John Calipari checked in to watch the Pirates. Earlier this offseason, Jerry Kill took in the Twins, and Bo Pelini was a staple at the College World Series in Omaha. Basically, college football and basketball coaches love baseball too. Yesterday, Duke’s David Cutcliffe attended the Rockies-Braves...

Three Cuts: Braves drop Rockies with offensive clinic

Fueled by a six-run fourth inning, the Atlanta Braves' offense jumped all over the Colorado Rockies' pitching staff for the second consecutive night, winning the game 11-3. Here are three observations from the game: 1. Since inserting Jason Heyward into the leadoff role, the Braves' offense has looked better and better (and better) When the Braves returned from a seven...

Freeman homers twice as Braves beat Rockies 11-3

After Alex Wood settled down Tuesday and started pitching the way he and the Braves knew he could his teammates made sure they provided plenty of run support for the rookie left-hander in his first win in the majors. Freddie Freeman hit two home runs and Brian McCann had a three-run homer in a six-run fourth inning that sent the Braves and Wood to an 11-3 win against the Rockies...

Rockies @ Braves: Starting lineup, pitchers and preview

The Atlanta Braves are looking to continue their five game win streak and build on their division lead. To do that the Braves will again have to defeat the Colorado Rockies at Turner Field. Slumping Colorado hopes to avoid their seventh loss in 10 games by giving the ball to Tyler Chatwood. Game time is 7:10 with SPSO carrying the game for Brave fans while ROOT SPORTS has it in the...

Braves-Phillies Preview

The Atlanta Braves have powered their way to their largest division lead in a decade. Perhaps the NL East leaders can carry over some of that offense to a Kris Medlen start. The right-hander will try to guide the visiting Braves to an eighth consecutive victory in Friday night's series opener against the slumping Philadelphia Phillies. Led by two homers and five RBIs from...
