Doug Bernier’s late error cost Scranton/Wilkes-Barre a victory

AAA: Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre fell to Charlotte 4-3 in eleven innings on a game-ending throwing error by Doug Bernier which allowed Conor Jackson to score. Before the blunder, Yankees’ pitching had certainly done a good enough job to win this game. Starting pitcher John Maine threw six solid innings, allowing just three runs on six hits while striking out eight. After Maine left, Cory Wade continued his domination of Triple-A hitters with four more scoreless innings. He now hasn’t allowed a run in thirteen innings this season. Ryota Igarashi came on to pitch in the 11th, and was charged with the loss due to Bernier’s error. Offensively, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre managed six hits on the day, but only one extra-base hit – a Corban Joseph home run in the sixth inning. Eduardo Nunez was 0-for-4 in his return to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre lineup.

AA: Trenton Thunder
Trenton scored three in the seventh to take a lead which they would never relinquish, defeating the Portland Sea Dogs 4-2 on Wednesday night. Brett Marshall earned the win after tossing six innings of one-run baseball, allowing eight hits along the way. He struck out six Portland batters. Mark Montgomery continued his dominance throughout the minor leagues, putting two shutout innings in the book for Trenton before turning the ball over to Kelvin Perez, who earned his third save of the year. Offensively, Trenton got all its runs via the long ball, with Zoilo Almonte going hitting a solo shot in the fourth, and Neil Medchill giving the Thunder the lead with a three-run blast in the seventh.

High-A: Tampa Yankees
Joba Chamberlain pitched in back-to-back games for the first time this year, allowing one hit in his inning of work before giving way to Shane Greene. The scheduled starter initially, Greene won his fourth game of the season as Tampa downed Lakeland 4-2. Greene went six innings, allowing two runs on seven hits while striking out a pair. Branden Pinder would then come on and toss two perfect innings to record his sixth save of the season. Offensively, the team got a pair of RBIs from both Zach Wilson and Kyle Roller to lead them to victory. Only Roller and SS Jose Mojica had multiple hits on the day. Tyler Austin (head) returned to the Tampa line-up, going 0-for-3 with a walk and a run scored.

Class A: Charleston RiverDogs
The Charleston offense sputtered on Wednesday, managing just three hits in a 4-1 loss to the Rome Braves. Ali Castillo certainly did his part, going 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored, but it simply wasn’t enough for the RiverDogs. Francisco Arcia had the team’s only other hit. On the mound, Scottie Allen struggled, and his record dropped to 3-7 on the year as a result. Allen lasted five innings yesterday, allowing four runs on six hits and two walks while striking out two. John Brebbia and Nick Goody combined for four shutout innings after Allen departed.

My 200th Russell Martin Card is The Pinnacle of My 2008 Spectrum Swatches Rainbow.

It took me a long, long time, but I was finally able to land the most short-printed card in my quest to complete Russ Martin's 2008 UD Spectrum Swatches Rainbow. I present the long-ago arrived and thankfully in-hand 1/1 Black Printing Plate of Russ' 2008 Spectrum Swatches card! I had only ever seen one of the four plates this rainbow produced, and it was an eBay auction I...
