Brett Marshall was outdueled by Jameson Tallion last night in Trenton AAA: Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees
Eduardo Nunez led Scranton/Wilkes-Barre past Buffalo 4-2 on Tuesday afternoon by recording three hits in four trips to the plate and scoring once. Chris Dickerson, the team’s leadoff hitter, was the only other Yankees hitter to record a multi-hit game. He went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored. Despite going hitless, Brandon Laird turned in a pair of RBIs. Corban Joseph, who scored twice, and Kosuke Fukudome drove home the other two runs. Justin Thomas turned in a great performance on the mound, allowing just two runs (one earned) on three hits in 5.1 innings of work. Despite the performance, Thomas would not factor into the decision, with Preston Claiborne instead earning his third win of the season with 1.2 innings of scoreless pitching. Claiborne would then give way to Cory Wade, who recorded the final six outs to earn his fourth save of the season. AA: Trenton Thunder
Eastern League wins leader Brett Marshall was outdueled by super-prospect Jameson Tallion, who was making his Double-A debut, as Altoona defeated Trenton 5-0 on Tuesday night. Marshall allowed four of those runs on nine hits during six innings of work. He would strike out seven Altoona batters. However, you can’t win if you can’t score, which is something the Thunder couldn’t do as Tallion tossed five shutout innings and stuck Marshall with his sixth loss of the season. Trenton managed just five hits on the evening, with a double off the bat of J.R. Murphy being the only extra base hit. Zoilo Almonte, Addison Maruszak, Luke Murton, and Walter Ibarra also contributed hits for the Thunder. High-A: Tampa Yankees
Tampa’s game against Dunedin was postponed due to inclement weather. It will be made up as part of a double-header on August 28th. Low-A: Charleston RiverDogs
A pair of second-inning home runs by Saxon Butler and Cody Grice pushed the RiverDogs out to a 4-0 lead that they would never relinquish, as they eventually topped West Virginia 5-4 on Tuesday night. Grice, who led the team with two hits, brought home three runs when he hit his first home run of the season. Ali Castillo, Rey Nunez, Casey Stevenson, and Francisco Arcia each contributed a hit apiece as well. Onn the mound, Scottie Allen started for Charleston and pitched 4.2 scoreless innings, striking out five batters while allowing just three hits. Fred Lewis would follow him, tossing 1.1 scoreless innings to earn his sixth win of the season. Charlie Short got touched up in the 8th inning, allowing four runs while recording two outs, but closer Nick Goody stepped in and recorded the final four outs, striking out every hitter he faced to secure the win.
