AAA: Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees

Scranton split a doubleheader yesterday with the Norfolk Tides, winning the first and losing the second in eleven innings. In the first game, Adam Warren pitched an absolute gem, tossing a complete (seven inning) game and allowing just five hits. Warren also struck out six as he earned his third win of the season. Offensively, Warren got a big helping hand from Corban Joseph, who hit a two-run home run on the day, and Ronnier Mustelier, who went 2-for-4 with an RBI.

The second game was much uglier. Mustelier and Jack Cust both homered for Scranton, but it wasn’t enough to win, as the Yankees went down by a score of 7-4. A poor outing from closer Kevin Whelan made it a game again, and then Ryota Igarashi and Manny Delcarmen imploded in the 11th inning. Jason Bulger, who started, went three innings in what was dubbed as a “bullpen game.”

AA: Trenton Thunder

A good start from Adam Miller (6.2 IP, 8 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 1 K) was wasted when Ryan Pope blew a 4-3 lead in the 9th inning, allowing five runners to cross the plate as the Thunder dropped 8-4 to the New Hampshire Fisher Cats. The loss came in spite of Jose Pirela’s second home run of the season — the first was hit on Saturday night, as the Thunder won manager Tony Franklin his 1,000th career game in walk-off fashion in the 14th inning. Pirela’s 2-for-4 outing last night also included a double.

High-A: Tampa Yankees

Tampa fell to St. Lucie last night by a score of 5-3 despite a big night from the middle of the order. First baseman Kyle Roller went 3-for-4 with a home run, while Neil Medchill, playing right field, went 2-for-3 with a triple and an RBI. Both players scored once. Shane Greene gave the Yankees a solid four innings for the start, allowing just three hits and no runs. However, St. Lucie blew it open in the sixth, scoring five runs off of Manny Bareda and Matt Bashore. Barreda would take the loss, his first of the season.

Class A: Charleston RiverDogs

Charleston hit their way to a victory over Greenville last night, as elite outfield prospects Tyler Austin and Mason Williams each had a 3-for-5 evening with a run scored. Additionally, Austin hit his league-leading 14th home run, a solo shot in the 7th inning which had given Charleston a then 5-1 lead. William Oliver started for Charleston and pitched well enough to win. He threw 6.2 innings, allowing three runs on six hits while also striking out six. Yesterday’s outing moved Oliver to 2-2 on the season.

IT IS HIGH WHITE PAPER: If the Yankee brass never made a deal, would we be better off?

What if they signed free agents and developed...
