Found August 09, 2013 on Waiting For Next Year:
The Indians today announced that RHP Carlos Carrasco has been recalled from AAA Columbus. He will take the roster spot of Preston Guilmet, who was brought up to bolster the bullpen yesterday. What is particularly interesting is that the Indians plan to use Carrasco out of the bullpen. “Carrasco begins his fourth stint at the Major League level in 2013, posting an 0-4 record with a 9.10ERA in 6 previous starts with Cleveland (28.2IP, 47H, 29ER, 13BB, 15K). Around his tenure with the Indians he has gone 3-1-1 with a 3.14ERA in 16 games/14 starts for Triple-A Columbus (71.2IP, 59H, 25ER, 21BB, 79K, .221 AVG, 9.9K per 9.0IP). Carlos is slated to pitch out of the bullpen and will be in uniform tonight when the Indians take on the Angels at 7:05 PM ET in Progressive Field.” The bullpen has been overworked the last two games, pitching 5.2 innings yesterday (not counting Raburn’s inning of work) and 6.2 innings on Wednesday. Cleveland Indians miss big on deals for Myers and Reynolds

The Cleveland Indians front office has to be nearly flawless to compete for the playoffs in any year. If you don’t believe that proposition, just ask the Moneyball A’s or Wall Street Rays, whose innovation and knack for value propelled them to long playoff runs. Entering 2013, the Tribe made major long-term investments on Nick Swisher (4 years, $56 million) and Michael Bourn...

Cleveland Indians Fans Chant “Detroit’s Bankrupt” At Ballpark

Indians fans began to chant “Detroit’s bankrupt” after Tigers fans were chanting “Let’s go Tigers” in Cleveland last night.  In not the classiest of moves, Cleveland fans took the jabbing to an unnecessary level by harping on the extreme financial distress of a hard working town.  However, the Tigers got the last laugh winning the first three games of a four-game series...

MLB News: Terry Francona says Scott Kazmir needs rest

The Indians have lost five games in a row, and lost starting pitcher Corey Kluber to a strained finger earlier this week. Now, it seems that starter Scott Kazmir may miss his next turn as well. “He wanted to answer the bell today because he knew it was important,” Francona said of Kazmir. “But I think we’ll go back and see what we can do to try to give him maybe a couple...

Carson paces Columbus to 4-1 win over Louisville

COLUMBUS- Center fielder Matt Carson’s three RBI performance helped clinch a series sweep against the Louisville Bats with a 4-1 victory Friday at Huntington Park. After knocking in infielders Nate Spears and Justin Toole with a groundball single to center field in the bottom of the third inning, Carson provided the Clippers with some extra breathing room in the eighth with a solo...

House shuts down Bats, Clippers win 8-1

Louisville- With their offense in overdrive and starting pitching on point the Clippers took the win from the Louisville Bats on Saturday. After three quiet innings Columbus took the lead and kept it for the rest of the night, only giving up a single run to Louisville and winning 8-1. The Clippers were the first to strike early in the fourth. Jeremy Hermida led off the inning drawing...

Further Analysis into the Release of Mark Reynolds

When the Indians gave Mark Reynolds a six million dollar contract this offseason, they were expecting the 29 year old to play similarly to his previous seasons in Baltimore and Arizona. Taking into account a slight decrease into production due to age (Reynolds hit his peak at 25, a much younger age than most people), they could have expected him to hit between 20 and 30 home runs...

Cleveland Indians experience worst-case scenario as Tigers complete sweep

As much as most fans would like to blame Chris Perez for every Cleveland Indians loss, the fact of the matter is that the closer only makes up 1/25th of the major league roster. Perez, who has been silencing naysayers like myself since returning from the DL in late June, blew a 2-0 Tribe lead on Monday night while allowing four runs without recording a single out against the first...

Sailing with the Clippers: 8/1/13 to 8/7/13

Any hopes of the Clippers reaching the playoffs in 2013 are fading fast. After another mediocre 3-4 week, Columbus finds themselves 6.5 games out of a Wild Card spot and 11 games out of first place in the International League West. Although not dead, the chances for the Clippers to make a last minute surge are dwindling with a little under a month to go in the season. They’re either...

Miserable series puts Indians in something of a pickle

CLEVELAND -- Well, it sure does stink to be a member of the Cleveland Indians right now. Five days ago, it was great. Then the Detroit Tigers came to town. By the time they left, they took a commanding lead in the American League Central and stole nearly every reason for the Indians to believe in something good. Four games and four losses -- punctuated by the Tigers 10-3 hammer...

Ryan Raburn: Extended Edition

Ryan Raburn signed a two-year, $4.85 million contract extension with a club option for 2016, the Indians announced on Wednesday.  Although Joe would disagree with me, this was an extension that needed to get done before Raburn tested the free agent waters this offseason. In a season of 162+ games, having productive offensive players low in the depth chart is one of the characteristics...

Second Thoughts Game #116: Angels 5, Indians 2

Kazmir getting tired While we may have denied or even forgotten about the fact that this is Scott Kazmir’s first full season as a big league starter since 2010 and that he may have a point in the season where he begins to tire or his arm and shoulder may show signs of stress. Of course the same is true for any major leaguer due to the six-month long marathon that is...

Report: Red Sox Not Interested in Mark Reynolds, Who Was Recently Designated for Assignment

One of the Red Sox’ biggest storylines right now is their third base situation. Don’t expect Mark Reynolds to become a part of it. According to The Boston Globe’s Nick Cafardo, the Red Sox are not interested in Reynolds, who was just designated for assignment by the Indians. Reynolds, who has split time between third base and first base with Cleveland this season, is a classic...

Tigers Put A Nail In The Division Race Coffin, But Ryan Raburn Pitched!

7:20 PM: Good evening, all. You’re down to your third-string blogger with co-stars TD and Jon otherwise occupied, so I’m live blogging this bad boy with the Browns kicking off shortly as well! It’s the top of the second (1-2-3 on both sides in the 1st), and Zach McAllister (heretofore, referred to as “ZacMac”) just gave up a double off the wall in left. Michael Brantley...

Series Preview: Angels at Indians 8/9-11

Things couldn't get much worse for the Tribe, coming out of a four game sweep at the hands of division rival Detroit, but they will have to pull themselves back together for any chance at the playoffs this season. They will make their next move against the sub .500 Angels who currently reside in a solid fourth place in the American League West. While they haven't played up...
