The Seattle Mariners could be without their starting center fielder until as long as late May. Franklin Gutierrez tore his right pectoral muscle while performing a drill Tuesday in Spring Training.
The 29 year old will be out for at least four weeks before he can return to baseball related activities pushing back his ready date to start the season to mid to late May. Gutierrez is now in a sling for about a week and in a lot of pain.
The Mariners will look internally for a replacement. Leading candidates include Casper Wells, Chone Figgins, and Michael Saunders.
