Are the New York Yankees in serious jeopardy of losing the AL East division to the Tampa Bay Rays? Official Major League Baseball – Close-up Shot (Photo credit: Jason Michael) Well, according to MLB Network’s Harold Reynolds it is inevitable. So let’s say this New York nightmare does come true, according to ESPN New York’s Wallace Matthews this team will still be remembered…. If they (the Yankees) succeed in blowing the rest of the 10-game lead they had accumulated over the American League East a month ago, they will have accomplished the biggest collapse in the history of this storied franchise. Now the Rays deserve lots of credit as they have cut the lead to 2.5 games and have played like the best team in AL. And no doubt the Rays will take over soon if the Yankees do not get it together ASAP. Otherwise, the Nationals take the top spot this week as Washington has the best record (77-47) in MLB because that is what is fair. But if I had to choose the scariest NL team it would no do...

Yankees Game 125: CC And Swisher Set Things Right

New York Yankees 3 — Cleveland Indians 1   Nick Swisher was the entire Yankees offense in CC’s return to the mound in tonight’s 3-1 win over the Cleveland Indians.   CC Sabathia made two returns. His return to Cleveland and his return from an elbow injury. The injury seemed to be non-existent as he went 7.1 strong innings on 100 pitches. He would have all of his pitches...

Yankees Nova Placed on 15 Day DL

Courtesy of AP   Yankees have placed Ivan Nova on the 15-day DL, retroactive to August 22, with right rotator cuff inflammation.  Let’s hope a little R&R can get Nova back on track and looking more like the pitcher that was on the mound before the All Star break. Sabathia, Pettite, and now Nova on the DL.  The signing of Derek Lowe could come in play even more now with...

New York Yankees Place Ivan Nova on 15-Day Disabled List

The New York Yankees have placed starter Ivan Nova on the 15-day disabled list. The team announced Thursday that Nova is suffering from rotator cuff inflammation and could possibly return in September. Nova, 25, is 11-7 with a 4.92 ERA this season. However, the right-hander is just 2-5 in his last seven decisions, struggling to find his rhythm since the All-Star break. In the first...

Joe Girardi explodes on heckler mid-press conference (Video)

The Yankees lost to the White Sox 2-1 on Wednesday and were swept in a three-game series. In light of the sweep, it’s no surprise that manager Joe Girardi wasn’t in the best of moods after the game. In fact, he even stopped a press conference with reporters to confront a heckler. “Yankees swept, yes!” the heckler yelled, before Girardi began his press conference. The heckler...

Derek Jeter responds to Skip Bayless comparing his performance this season and baseball’s dirt tests

Yankees superstar Derek Jeter laughed off Skip Bayless’ First Take dialog on Jeter’s bounce back performance this season in the shadow of 2 suspensions for use of a performance-enhancing-drug (PEDS.) Skip lowkey insinuated that there’s no way Jeter couldn’t have at least considered taking the drug at 39 years old. “What do you want me [...]

Nick Swisher Exactly the Kind of Player Red Sox, Yankees Should Be Looking for (Just Not This Year's Version)

Nick Swisher will be a free agent after this season ends, and reports of his estimated price tag took an interesting turn this week. Swisher, it has been said, could draw a "Jayson Werth contract" this offseason. That terminology is now MLB shorthand for $126 million over seven years, or, by alternate definitions, lunacy. The Washington Nationals were widely -- and rightly...

Ivan Nova Headed to the DL

New York Yankees starting pitcher, Ivan Nova, has been placed on the 15 day disabled list. A report from Wallace Matthews of ESPN New York indicated that Nova did pitch with tightness in his right shoulder on Tuesday night against the Chicago White Sox.  An MRI later revealed that the right-hander is suffering from inflammation in his right rotator cuff. Nova (11-7) has been hit...

Skip Bayless accusations shouldn't surprise us

Skip Bayless accused Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter of using PEDs on Wednesday's "First Take." Yes, the guy we expect to take off-the-wall shots at athletes did exactly what we expected of him.But did Bayless finally cross that line between having insider knowledge and breaking a potential news story or just plain crazy talk? If you're a Yankees fan, you might be...

A Bit Of Perspective

Just because Michael Pineda is 65 pounds overweight, and just because he likes to get drunk every night while working out, doesn't mean he is not worth the king's ransom in kind and in salary we dealt for him.He is, my sources say, the most interesting overnight guest in the Palm County jail.A great joke teller.                                       ...

More reasons to hate ESPN: Skip Bayless (aka Ass Clown)

Ass-Clown! ((ht: biglead.com)) This is a little bit of a rant and goes somewhat counter to what we want to say here because we know that any acknowledgement of the existence of Pond Scum like Skip Bayless just makes ESPN more eager to keep him on TV. The latest reason that the man has no business on TV or arguably reporting period is this: He makes a random comment about...

Rather than being snubbed as Michael Corleone, will Derek Jeter win his first MVP as Colonel Frank Slade?

In the same week he was loosely questioned about using performance-enhancing drugs by renowned sports journalist and television personality Skip Bayless, speculation is mounting that legendary New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter may finally earn his first American League Most … Continue reading →

Bobby Valentine Prophetic In His Prediction Of Yankees Missing 2012 MLB Playoffs?

At the end of July, Boston Red Sox manager was talking about the chances that his team could still make the 2012 MLB Playoffs. At the time, Boston was in last place in the American League East, and the New York Yankees were well ahead of the rest of the division in first place. It seemed a foregone conclusion that New York would clinch a postseason berth, as well as...

Derek Jeter suggests Skip Bayless should be tested for PEDs

The comments Skip Bayless made on Wednesday about Derek Jeter were nothing more than Skip being Skip. His job is to create buzz and say extremely controversial things, and he may have outdone himself by insinuating that it’s possible Jeter has been able to continue playing at such a high level because of performance-enhancing drug use. “I would have to be sight- and hearing-impaired...
