In what is possibly the most Cleveland Indians move in 2012, the Cleveland Indians have responded to the Detroit Tigers’ recent trade by sending minor league pitcher Jose De La Torre to the Boston Red Sox for infielder/outfielder Brent Lillibridge.

Lillibridge, a 29-year-old right-hander, was recently designated for assignment after managing to amass no walks and two hits while striking out five times in 16 plate appearances with Boston after being acquired from the White Sox in a package for third baseman Kevin Youkilis.

On the season, “the versitile” Lillibridge 1  is batting .165 with an OPS of .389, 21 points better than the on-base percentage of Shin-Soo Choo. He will join the team on Wednesday and wear jersey No. 1.

De La Torre, 26, has an 8-1 record and an ERA of 2.91 between Double-A Akron and Triple-A Columbus, striking out 58 and walking 21 in 55 innings of work. Lonnie Chisenhall will be sent to the 60-day disabled list to make move on the Indians’ 25-man roster.

Lowe, Cleveland offense continue to struggle

Derek Lowe's second-half downward spiral continued Wednesday, but at this point it's a tossup whether a lack of pitching or a lack of hitting is the Cleveland Indians' biggest problem.
