What a miserable week it was too

From blown leads, to blown saves, to being on the wrong end of a perfect game, the Mariners week that was, was more like the week that wasn’t.

One win out of six tries at home.

Not much to promote here, and making too much fun of them might get me killed, so I am only doing a top five list this week.

Sorry to disappoint any of you.

#5: Iwukuma finally gets in a game

It only took a mere 15 games for Hisashi Iwukuma to get in a game, but the wait was worth it. Coming in for some mop up work, he shut down the White Sox in his three innings of work.

More on this in my My oh My! column this week.

#4: Felix pitches a gem

In game three of the Cleveland series, Felix Hernandez handed the ball, and the game over to Brandon League with a one run lead in the ninth. All League had to do was record three simple outs to preserve the win for Felix.

Brandon League Moments in time…The Seattle Mariners week that was

League blows save, Felix loses his win

But in the tradition of Mariners baseball, that was no easy task. League blows save, Felix loses his win.

#3: The M’s win, the M’s win.

New staff ace Jason Vargas propelled the M’s to their one and only win of the week against the Tribe. And, wait for it…Chone Figgins went deep as well.

His average may not be where the Mariners hoped it would be, but Figgins has provided a little more spark than he has in the past couple years.

#2: Perfection

Now I’m not taking anything away from the White Sox or their pitcher whose name I will refuse to put in this article, but for a team that seems to strive for mediocrity, or sometimes even less, going a perfect 27 for 27 without a hit or even a base runner is something to brag about!

#1 There’s no place like home

With the home stand finally done, the Mariners can look forward to getting back out on the road again, a place where they actually seem to be able to hit the ball.

Whoever said that home field advantage was a plus in this game, has never seen your 2012 Mariners at Safeco!

Alex Liddi Stating His Case for Mariners

With injured players healing and a roster shuffle just around the corner for Seattle, the right-handed hitting corner infielder has homered on back-to-back nights in Detroit and is making a strong case to stick around.

Liddi finding fans on two continents

Last week, Alex Liddi was a reserve infielder for the Seattle Mariners and the answer to a trivia question, as the first player born and raised in Italy to play in the major leagues. Now, he's much more than that. He's establishing himself as an everyday player. He's stirring interest in the game among his countrymen. And he's becoming the new face of European baseball...

Seattle Mariners start road trip strong, sweep Tigers

The Seattle Mariners were coming off a bad week, having finished up a nine-game stand by dropping five of their last six games including getting swept for the first time this season. It looked liked bad news was going to keep coming as the Mariners headed to the first place team in the A.L. Central, the Detroit Tigers. However, the Mariners responded by following up being swept by...

M's early winner in Montero-Pineda deal

The debate isn't over. It may persist for years, as long as Jesus Montero is a Mariner and Michael Pineda a Yankee. But the early returns are in. The Mariners are winning the trade. The statement is cold but true. Montero is playing. Pineda is not. Advantage: Seattle. Pineda's immediate future is worrisome indeed. His agent asked that Pineda receive a second opinion on...

Brendan Ryan Finds His Ironic Legacy: Keeping His Mouth Shut

We learned many things from Jim Joyce, Armando Galarraga and the infamous Imperfect Game of June 2, 2010. We learned that throwing beer bottles at the wall may cause significant DAMAGE (to the beer bottle, possibly the wall too). We learned that styling one’s facial hair after the Pringles man cannot disguise MISTAKES. And we also learned that the best way to avoid controversy...

Mariners-Blue Jays Preview

The Seattle Mariners ended their woes with a superb start to a 10-game road trip. Adding to their win streak, however, could prove difficult. The Mariners have struggled in recent visits to the Toronto Blue Jays but will try to end that trend beginning Friday night. After dropping a season-high four in a row, Seattle bounced back to sweep three games at Detroit. Chone Figgins hit...
