James McDonald's recent success is coming from ... his slider?
James McDonald's last three starts have been excellent. He's pitched fairly deeply into all three of them, averaging seven innings a start. He's struck out 25 hitters in those 21 innings, walked just seven, and only allowed five runs in the three starts. He took a no-hitter into the seventh inning of one of them. He's looked a lot like the James McDonald that we&...
Barajas saves his life with a walk-off homer
AJ Burnett made it pretty obvious last night that he doesn’t want the Pirates to throw him in the trash the way the Yankees did after he gave up 12 runs in less than three innings in his last start. Well, it was pretty hard not to forgive the guy after he pitched eight innings against the Nationals last night and struck out while just giving up two runs in the Buccos 5-4 win....
Barajas' first homer -- and first two RBI -- come on walk-off blast
No player at any position on any team could possibly have been struggling more than Rod Barajas. The Pittsburgh Pirates' beleaguered catcher was batting .127 with no home runs, no RBI and seemingly no end in sight as he stepped into the box Tuesday night with two outs in the ninth and Alex Presley on third base, Pittsburgh trailing the Washington Nationals by a run. Then...

Pirates 5, Nationals 4
Rod Barajas hit a two-run homer off Washington closer Henry Rodriguez with two outs in the ninth to lift the Pittsburgh Pirates to a 5-4 victory on Tuesday night.
The veteran catcher, mired in a season-long slump, drilled a shot down the left field line that sailed a few rows into the seats for his first home run and RBIs of the year.
The Nationals went ahead 4-3 after Adam LaRoche...
Sunday snooze-fest
The Reds rolled past the Pirates in a total snooze-fest today to take the series against the Bucs.
Charlie Morton ‘s dominance over the Reds unfortunately came to an abrupt end this afternoon. Cincinnati picked up an unearned run in the first following a pickoff throw that got away, but they hit the ball very well off Charlie in the next few innings. Todd Frazier and Drew Stubbs–bothâ...
Game 28: Reds 5 Pirates 0
I don't know how to accurately describe the frustration that this game caused me watching it. The Pirates were very patient with Mat Latos in the first inning and drew three walks and were a nice Todd Frazier snag of a Casey McGehee line drive away from making breaking the inning open. Instead, they got nothing out of the first and never really threatened to score again all afternoon...

OMFGHROD!
Pirates 5, Nationals 4: Rod beats HRod, etc. Joel Hanrahan does his best 2009 Joel Hanrahan with the Nats impression (GASCANRAHAN!) in the top of the 9th. Then Henry Rodriguez one-ups him with a better 2009 Joel Hanrahan with the Nats impression (Gascanhenrycan!) in the bottom of the 9th.
Seems Wilson Ramos still can't catch anything Henry throws...
Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Washington Nationals – Game 30
Before we get started I would be doing you, my loyal readers, a disservice if I didn’t at least bring this up. Couldn’t happen to a bigger group of scumbags. So last night’s baseball game was kinda exciting huh?  How about that freaking Rod Barajas jacking the game winner?  I will take some credit for [...]
Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Washington Nationals – Game 29
When people say that the Pirates can’t spend money, or that they aren’t just one player away I chuckle a bit.  Those same arguments could have been made about the Nationals.  The difference is that while the Nats drafted well, they ALSO spent money on the big league club.  Can you really succeed without doing [...]
