- Not that there was a whole lot of discussion about this, but DeShawn Sims and Manny Harris will be back next season.
- MGoBlue has a recap of the past week of spring practice. Some interesting things worth noting are that Adam Patterson was granted a medical redshirt for the 2008 season, every practice has been outside so far, and plenty of former players and coaches attended practice last week.
- Rich Rodriguez has said recently that he wants to break Alabama's attendance record for a spring game (92,000+). While he isn't setting his sights on that record this year, he is hoping to build interest in the annual game by adding other activities to the event, such as an alumni flag football game and tours of the Michigan Stadium locker room.
Locker Room Tours: Fans can tour and take photos in the Michigan team locker room from 8-10 a.m. Each locker will be set up with player uniforms and will look exactly the way that it does on game day. Fans will exit the locker room at the spot where Go Blue is painted at the top of the tunnel.
Former Players Flag Football Game: Prior to the final practice, former Michigan football greats will participate in a flag football game. Gary Moeller will coach the maize squad and Jerry Hanlon will coach the blue team. The one-hour alumni game will begin with player introductions at 10 a.m.
Students will get to sit together in the first 20 rows of sections 24 and 25, and the band, cheerleaders, and dance team will be at the game to liven up the atmosphere.
The goal for this year's spring game is an attendance of 40,000 people. I would be surprised if that many people showed up, but at least Rodriguez and the athletic department are trying to market this event. The attendance will depend greatly on what the weather is like, but if it is a nice day, I guess 40,000 is a realistic possibility.
What would be incredible is if a Michigan spring game in a few years was like a regular home football game. If the popularity of the event got to that point and the team was good, then I wouldn't be surprised if the game was broadcast on ESPN like other teams have done in the past. That would be an excellent way to market the program and would come a long way from the rainy scrimmage held at Saline High School last year. - Michigan wrestler Steve Luke won a national championship in St. Louis on Saturday.
- The women's gymnastics team won its third consecutive Big Ten title.
- Former Michigan baseball player Chris Getz is going to start at second base for the Chicago White Sox.
- Varsity Blue's FormerlyAnonymous has a recap of the baseball team's sweep of IPFW.
- Michigan State reinstated Corey Tropp last week. Tropp is the player that slashed Steve Kampfer in the head after Andrew Conboy had already taken him out with a sucker punch. I imagine Tropp has already learned from his mistake, but I still hope Michigan players put a little extra force into their hits on him next season, at least in the first game between U-M and MSU.
